Shimada Iseki ruins worth visiting in 2026?
Shimada Iseki is basically a small fenced-off excavation with almost nothing to see, so for jomon stuff you're better off at the Osaka Museum of History or a day trip to Nara
the jomon pottery at kawasaki museum is worth the extra train ride tbh
Second this, go early on a weekday.
kawachi kokubunji, jomon pottery there
Is kokubunji actually open on weekdays though? last i checked the tahoto area keeps odd hours
that pottery room's tiny tho, check hours first
agreed, the Habikino branch does actual jomon finds
Weekday mornings, fewer school groups.
True, though Sakai's city museum has better jomon pieces.
good call on the museum but the jomon gallery there is mostly replicas, the real stuff needs a trip out to the Nara bunkazai research place
Is Shimada Ruins worth visiting in 2026?
the shimada ruins are in fujiidera, not osaka city
Fair point, it's in Fujiidera, roughly 20 minutes from Tennoji on the Kintetsu Minami-Osaka line, though the excavated area itself is small and mostly fenced off.
Second this. The fenced part is basically it.
agreed, bring bug spray in summer
small site, maybe 20 min to walk through
yeah true, technically a different city. still counts as osaka area for most trip planning tho. trains from abeno should get u there quick.
abeno is the right station but the ruins are a short walk from fujiidera station itself so dont overshoot
Different prefecture actually, Osaka-fu not Osaka-shi
Good catch on the city line, though prefecture boundaries trip people up too. Either way it's a quick hop from central Osaka, so the distinction barely matters for a day trip.
honestly if u want archaeology in that area, the Fujiidera museum nearby has the actual artifacts from the site, way more interesting than staring at a fenced field. entry there is cheap, like a couple hundred yen. the ruins themselves are basically a grassy lot with signs. i'd skip unless ur really into Jomon period stuff
