Where to see a doctor in Osaka as a visitor in 2026

Where should I go, roughly what does it cost without Japanese insurance, and do most clinics take foreign cards or should I bring cash?

For skin issues, look for a 皮膚科 (hifuka) rather than a general clinic; near Umeda, the hifuka floors in the big buildings around Hankyu station are used to walk-ins. Bring cash, since many small clinics are cash only and card acceptance is patchy. Expect roughly 5,000 to 10,000 yen for a consultation plus a bit more for prescriptions.

Namba and Tennoji are just as easy for walk-ins, and larger clinics near there tend to accept Visa more readily than the small ones.

arrow_drop_up 4 arrow_drop_down

shinsaibashi side streets have plenty of hifuka too, but bring yen since the tiny ones often only take cash

arrow_drop_up 4 arrow_drop_down

yeah bigger spots take cards, tiny ones cash only

arrow_drop_up 1 arrow_drop_down

cash tip is the real one, 7-Eleven ATMs take foreign cards

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

add that hifuka often close wednesday afternoons, so check hours before trekking out

arrow_drop_up 1 arrow_drop_down

Also worth noting many hifuka shut on Sundays and national holidays, so a weekday morning is safest. And you'll usually pay at the reception desk after the consult, not upfront.

Good call on the weekday morning, and reception closes for lunch too, usually 12 to 1 or 2, so don't show up right at noon.

arrow_drop_up 3 arrow_drop_down

Worth checking the clinic's website the day before, some close for random staff holidays too.

true, and saturday mornings get packed since theyre often the only weekend slot. bring ur passport too, some places ask for it as id for foreign patients

Is Shimada Ruins worth visiting in 2026?

Is it open to the public and easy to reach by public transport, or is it more of a research site? Any idea what the hours and entry cost look like?
arrow_drop_up 3 arrow_drop_down

the shimada ruins are in fujiidera, not osaka city

arrow_drop_up 3 arrow_drop_down

Fair point, it's in Fujiidera, roughly 20 minutes from Tennoji on the Kintetsu Minami-Osaka line, though the excavated area itself is small and mostly fenced off.

arrow_drop_up 3 arrow_drop_down

Second this. The fenced part is basically it.

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

agreed, bring bug spray in summer

arrow_drop_up 5 arrow_drop_down

small site, maybe 20 min to walk through

arrow_drop_up 0 arrow_drop_down

yeah true, technically a different city. still counts as osaka area for most trip planning tho. trains from abeno should get u there quick.

arrow_drop_up 1 arrow_drop_down

abeno is the right station but the ruins are a short walk from fujiidera station itself so dont overshoot

arrow_drop_up -1 arrow_drop_down

Different prefecture actually, Osaka-fu not Osaka-shi

arrow_drop_up 3 arrow_drop_down

Good catch on the city line, though prefecture boundaries trip people up too. Either way it's a quick hop from central Osaka, so the distinction barely matters for a day trip.

honestly if u want archaeology in that area, the Fujiidera museum nearby has the actual artifacts from the site, way more interesting than staring at a fenced field. entry there is cheap, like a couple hundred yen. the ruins themselves are basically a grassy lot with signs. i'd skip unless ur really into Jomon period stuff
