How do I get to the Kusu tree in Kamitsushima?

fmd_good上津島のクスノキ · #train #camphor #kamitsushima
I'm visiting Osaka in 2026 and heard about the big camphor tree in Kamitsushima. Is it easy to reach by train from central Osaka, or do I need a bus? Any tips on the best time to go see it? the kusu tree is on kamijima in the seto inland sea, so from osaka it's a shinkansen to okayama then a train & ferry, not a day trip

yeah kamijima is right, not kamitsushima, easy mix-up. from okayama it's the seto-ohashi line to nagahama then a ferry, and the island bus runs maybe 3 times a day so check times before u commit. spring or autumn is best, summer humidity there is rough

agree it's not a day trip, but worth adding an overnight in Kurashiki or on Naoshima to break it up. last ferry back from the island is early afternoon so you don't wanna get stuck

Is the Minamizono pedestrian bridge worth a visit in 2026?

I'll be in Osaka for a few days in 2026 and keep seeing photos of the Minamizono pedestrian bridge. Is it actually worth making the trip out for, or is it just a quick photo stop? Went last spring, honestly it's a 10 minute photo stop, go at dusk when teh lights come on and combine it with a walk along the Yodo river.

Second this, but go right after sunset before the crowds.

arrow_drop_up 5 arrow_drop_down

the 7pm blue hour on a weekday

arrow_drop_up 4 arrow_drop_down

yep but weekday evenings after 8 clear out fast, and the bridge lamps turn off around 10 so don't cut it too close

Wednesday, when the office crowds thin out.

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

fair but the lamp glare only clears once the sky goes deep blue, so hang around 15 min past sunset

arrow_drop_up 1 arrow_drop_down

agree, though the good light is more like 20 min before sunset if u want the bridge lit without the lamp glare blowing out ur phone shots

arrow_drop_up 5 arrow_drop_down

yeah the river walk is the real reason to go, bridge itself is tiny. if u have time cross over to the nakatsu side for a quieter angle. weeknights beat weekends by a lot

Minamizono bridge, weekday mornings for empty shots

arrow_drop_up 5 arrow_drop_down

saturday mornings before 9, way fewer people
