I've heard whispers...legends, even, about a hidden fountain somewhere in the park, not on any map, not mentioned in any guidebook. Locals only know about it, apparently. It's supposed to have some... unusual properties. Supposedly, if you toss a coin in at sunset, your deepest desire will be fulfilled. Anyone ever heard of this? Found this hidden fountain? Seriously curious!

ngl i've been going there for years and never seen a fountain matching that description. what i'd watch out for instead is the timing, the Prenestina gate off via di porta san lorenzo closes around sunset depending on the season, so if u show up late expecting a magic moment you might just get locked in. my actual tip is to enter from the via prenestina side in the morning when the dog walkers are out, they know every corner of that park and some will happily tell you where the old water points are. just dont expect wishes, expect mud.

if u do end up going, the entrance most people miss is the one off via di porta san lorenzo where the old snia gate still stands, past the community gardens. there's a small cistern structure back near the aniene bank that some people call the fountain, but it's really just an old water tank from the factory days, half swallowed by ivy. bring a torch if you go poking around the ruins after 6, the paths get genuinely dark & the ground is uneven

The park itself is worth the trip for reasons that have nothing to do with fountains. It sits on the old Snia Viscosa factory grounds off Via Prenestina, and the whole area was occupied and reclaimed by residents back in the 2000s, which is why it still feels half wild and unmanicured compared to Villa Borghese or even Villa Gordiani up the road. If you go, walk the perimeter path along the Aniene side, the industrial ruins mixed with the overgrowth are genuinely strange in a good way. Bring water, there's not much shade once you're past the treeline.

I have a layover in Riga before continuing my journey, and I'm wondering if it would be financially beneficial to purchase my tobacco there. Can anyone provide details on the prices?

tbh duty free at Riga is only worth it if you're buying cartons, single packs at the airport arent that much cheaper than teh tabaccai in Rome. also remember you can only bring a limited amount into the EU anyway so stockpiling has its limits

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

Chesterfield Blue usually runs around 5.50 to 6 euros a pack in Rome these days, though tabaccai prices are fixed by the state so it won't vary much shop to shop. Riga is generally cheaper for cigarettes but your layover time matters, if it's tight you might not have time to clear security and find a shop.

LM Blue in Rome is roughly the same ballpark, around 5.50 to 6 euros. One thing to keep in mind at Riga airport, the duty free selection isn't always great for specific brands like these, so if you're set on LM or Chesterfield you might strike out. I'd check what the actual duty free has before counting on it.
