Heard some wild stories about the library, apparently, it's got some seriously ancient texts, maybe even some hidden passages? Anyone know if those whispers are true, or just campus legend? I'm already picturing myself stumbling upon some lost scroll detailing a papal conspiracy or something equally dramatic... Seriously though, any tips on exploring the university grounds beyond the conference itself would be appreciated. It seems kinda cloistered from the outside.

Yeah, the Gregorian's library is amazing. Seriously old stuff. Hidden passages? Doubtful, but the sheer size and age of the place... you could easily get lost for hours. It's a bit of a labyrinth. Best bet for exploring beyond the conference is just wandering the grounds, it's beautiful, but very much a self-contained world. Maybe try to find a map beforehand, though, otherwise you'll probably just end up circling the courtyard. And don't even think about sneaking into any restricted areas, security's pretty tight. Enjoy the conference! You'll probably learn more than you'd find in any lost scroll.

Haha, good point about getting lost! Sounds like a proper maze. I figured sneaking around was a bad idea, security cameras everywhere probably. Thanks for the heads-up on the grounds though, I'll definitely wander around a bit, the library alone is apparently a whole day's worth of exploring. Appreciate the advice!

I have a layover in Riga before continuing my journey, and I'm wondering if it would be financially beneficial to purchase my tobacco there. Can anyone provide details on the prices?

tbh duty free at Riga is only worth it if you're buying cartons, single packs at the airport arent that much cheaper than teh tabaccai in Rome. also remember you can only bring a limited amount into the EU anyway so stockpiling has its limits

Chesterfield Blue usually runs around 5.50 to 6 euros a pack in Rome these days, though tabaccai prices are fixed by the state so it won't vary much shop to shop. Riga is generally cheaper for cigarettes but your layover time matters, if it's tight you might not have time to clear security and find a shop.

LM Blue in Rome is roughly the same ballpark, around 5.50 to 6 euros. One thing to keep in mind at Riga airport, the duty free selection isn't always great for specific brands like these, so if you're set on LM or Chesterfield you might strike out. I'd check what the actual duty free has before counting on it.
