I've heard whispers about a hidden artisan workshop tucked away in a less touristy part, supposedly, they make these incredible leather goods, completely unique to the area. Anyone know how to find it? I'm not looking for some huge factory, more of a tiny, family-run place... something authentic. Maybe someone could point me in the right direction or give me a clue? I'm prepared to get a little lost, tbh. It's part of the fun!

you might be thinking of the leather place on via della scaletta, it's a bit hard to spot since it's between a laundromat and a tiny grocery. no sign, just a wooden door with a faded number. the guy there, marco, does mostly custom work and doesn't advertise, so you gotta knock and hope he's in. bring cash, he's not set up for cards and the prices are fair for the quality

I'd just wander around Via della Pisana, there's a few old school spots tucked back there.

Check out the area near Via di Monteverde, not the main strip but the little side streets off it. I remember stumbling into a tiny workshop behind a bakery on a dead-end lane a couple years back, no sign out front, just a guy working by a window.

I have a layover in Riga before continuing my journey, and I'm wondering if it would be financially beneficial to purchase my tobacco there. Can anyone provide details on the prices?

tbh duty free at Riga is only worth it if you're buying cartons, single packs at the airport arent that much cheaper than teh tabaccai in Rome. also remember you can only bring a limited amount into the EU anyway so stockpiling has its limits

Chesterfield Blue usually runs around 5.50 to 6 euros a pack in Rome these days, though tabaccai prices are fixed by the state so it won't vary much shop to shop. Riga is generally cheaper for cigarettes but your layover time matters, if it's tight you might not have time to clear security and find a shop.

LM Blue in Rome is roughly the same ballpark, around 5.50 to 6 euros. One thing to keep in mind at Riga airport, the duty free selection isn't always great for specific brands like these, so if you're set on LM or Chesterfield you might strike out. I'd check what the actual duty free has before counting on it.
