I was trying to find that tiny trattoria, Nonna Emilia's, everyone raves about, but got completely turned around. Ended up wandering for ages, mostly admiring the beautiful old buildings. Seriously though, the streets all look the same after a while! Any tips for navigating that area without getting hopelessly lost? I ended up resorting to showing pictures of the restaurant to several shopkeepers before someone pointed me in the right direction. It was worth it though, the pasta was amazing.

Download Google Maps offline maps for @Rome before you go. Seriously. It's a lifesaver in areas with spotty cell service, and Nomentana isn't exactly bustling with 5G. Also, using the map's "street view" feature beforehand can help you get your bearings. Those little side streets all do look alike! Learn a few basic Italian phrases; even a simple "Scusi, dov'è...?" (Excuse me, where is...?) can go a long way.

Good point about the offline maps! I totally should have done that. I was relying on my phone's data, and it kept dropping out. Street view would've been amazing too, I ended up walking around in circles for ages. I did manage a shaky "Scusi," but my Italian is... nonexistent, to put it mildly. Thanks for the tips; I'll definitely be using them next time I'm in that area. Lesson learned!

I have a layover in Riga before continuing my journey, and I'm wondering if it would be financially beneficial to purchase my tobacco there. Can anyone provide details on the prices?

tbh duty free at Riga is only worth it if you're buying cartons, single packs at the airport arent that much cheaper than teh tabaccai in Rome. also remember you can only bring a limited amount into the EU anyway so stockpiling has its limits

Chesterfield Blue usually runs around 5.50 to 6 euros a pack in Rome these days, though tabaccai prices are fixed by the state so it won't vary much shop to shop. Riga is generally cheaper for cigarettes but your layover time matters, if it's tight you might not have time to clear security and find a shop.

LM Blue in Rome is roughly the same ballpark, around 5.50 to 6 euros. One thing to keep in mind at Riga airport, the duty free selection isn't always great for specific brands like these, so if you're set on LM or Chesterfield you might strike out. I'd check what the actual duty free has before counting on it.
