yeah those side paths are actually part of the old parco dei daini, the deer park from back when the borghese family owned everything. the overgrown ones near the western wall lead to a small abandoned aviary, it's kinda creepy but cool if you like that sort of thing. just watch out for the wild cats that hang out there, they're not mean but they'll startle u if you're not paying attention. bring a flashlight even during the day, some parts are really shaded and the ground gets uneven
ngl you might actually find something cool, the old casina delle rose is back there and it's usually empty. just follow the path that curves past the big pine tree near the eastern wall, it's not a ditch but there's some loose gravel so watch your step. i'd go on a weekday morning when less people are around, feels a bit more adventurous that way
Those overgrown paths? Probably just lead to more overgrown bits of Villa Borghese. Nothing secret about them, I'd wager. Unless you're hoping to stumble onto a hidden Medici fountain or something. Rome's full of surprises, but those trails are likely just... trails. Wear sturdy shoes though, trust me on that one. You'll need them more than a machete.

tbh duty free at Riga is only worth it if you're buying cartons, single packs at the airport arent that much cheaper than teh tabaccai in Rome. also remember you can only bring a limited amount into the EU anyway so stockpiling has its limits
Chesterfield Blue usually runs around 5.50 to 6 euros a pack in Rome these days, though tabaccai prices are fixed by the state so it won't vary much shop to shop. Riga is generally cheaper for cigarettes but your layover time matters, if it's tight you might not have time to clear security and find a shop.
LM Blue in Rome is roughly the same ballpark, around 5.50 to 6 euros. One thing to keep in mind at Riga airport, the duty free selection isn't always great for specific brands like these, so if you're set on LM or Chesterfield you might strike out. I'd check what the actual duty free has before counting on it.
