The sheer scale is impressive! But I noticed something odd - a small, almost hidden path leading away from the main trails, overgrown with ivy. No signs, nothing. Did anyone else stumble upon this path and explore it? I was too nervous to go alone, it felt a little...creepy. What's the story behind that overgrown area?

I know exactly which path you mean. It leads down toward the old cistern system that predates the villa's current layout. The entrance was sealed off years ago because the tunnels underneath are unstable and the city never got around to proper maintenance. A few local history buffs have tried to get it cleaned up and mapped, but nothing ever comes of it. If you go back, you can spot the iron grate just past the ivy if you look closely.

Oh yeah, I've heard about that path. Locals say it was part of a servants' route that connected to a smaller villa that got demolished maybe a hundred years ago. Not creepy once you know it's just old service stairs, but definitely not worth going down alone with all the overgrowth.

that path is actually on some older maps of the area from the 1920s, labeled as an access route to a small chapel that was never finished. the ivy hides a broken cornerstone with a faded inscription, something about a blessing that was never completed. i went with a friend last spring, it's mostly just rubble and a weirdly peaceful quiet spot, not really spooky once you're there

I have a layover in Riga before continuing my journey, and I'm wondering if it would be financially beneficial to purchase my tobacco there. Can anyone provide details on the prices?

tbh duty free at Riga is only worth it if you're buying cartons, single packs at the airport arent that much cheaper than teh tabaccai in Rome. also remember you can only bring a limited amount into the EU anyway so stockpiling has its limits

Chesterfield Blue usually runs around 5.50 to 6 euros a pack in Rome these days, though tabaccai prices are fixed by the state so it won't vary much shop to shop. Riga is generally cheaper for cigarettes but your layover time matters, if it's tight you might not have time to clear security and find a shop.

LM Blue in Rome is roughly the same ballpark, around 5.50 to 6 euros. One thing to keep in mind at Riga airport, the duty free selection isn't always great for specific brands like these, so if you're set on LM or Chesterfield you might strike out. I'd check what the actual duty free has before counting on it.
