LUISS's Secret Societies?

Everyone keeps mentioning this intense, almost mythical, vibe around the place. Like, is it just the pressure of the academics, or are there actual, secret societies pulling strings behind the scenes? I've heard whispers of late-night meetings in shadowy libraries, exclusive events with powerful alumni... The whole thing feels like a movie. I'm not sure if I should be excited or terrified. Maybe it's just Rome making everything feel a bit dramatic... Anyway, Anyone know the real deal?

yeah the secret society thing is def overblown. its more like certain clubs have weird traditions or inside jokes that sound spookier than they are. i knew a guy who was "initiated" into one and it was basically just a fancy dinner with a speech about the schools history. romans love their drama

fwiw the whole secret society thing is just LUISS marketing itself to sound more exclusive than it is. there's a group called the Collegio that does have some weird traditions but it's basically a scholarship program with a lot of pageantry. the late night library meetings are prob just students cramming for exams in the basement of the Viale Romania building, not a cabal. rome does make everything feel cinematic but the real secret is that the alumni network is just really good at getting you internships at places like Eni or McKinsey if you play your cards right

Honestly, the whole secret society thing is just part of the school's charm and branding. There's definitely a tight-knit alumni network that loves to play up the mystery, but it's more about who you know for jobs after graduation than some Illuminati stuff. You'll probably get invited to some fancy cocktail thing in a palazzo, but it's just rich kids networking, not a ritual.

I have a layover in Riga before continuing my journey, and I'm wondering if it would be financially beneficial to purchase my tobacco there. Can anyone provide details on the prices?

tbh duty free at Riga is only worth it if you're buying cartons, single packs at the airport arent that much cheaper than teh tabaccai in Rome. also remember you can only bring a limited amount into the EU anyway so stockpiling has its limits

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

Chesterfield Blue usually runs around 5.50 to 6 euros a pack in Rome these days, though tabaccai prices are fixed by the state so it won't vary much shop to shop. Riga is generally cheaper for cigarettes but your layover time matters, if it's tight you might not have time to clear security and find a shop.

LM Blue in Rome is roughly the same ballpark, around 5.50 to 6 euros. One thing to keep in mind at Riga airport, the duty free selection isn't always great for specific brands like these, so if you're set on LM or Chesterfield you might strike out. I'd check what the actual duty free has before counting on it.
