I'm a sucker for unusual flavor combinations, something truly Roman. So far I've only seen the standard stuff online. Hoping for some local insight to avoid disappointment! It's supposed to be amazing, but I'm overwhelmed by the options.

honestly La Piadineria is a chain, not really a Roman institution, so if you want truly Roman go find a piadineria in Testaccio or a stall near Campo de' Fiori. that said if you're already there try the one with squacquerone, rucola and crudo di Parma, it's the Emilia-Romagna classic and way better than the weird fusion stuff. the nduja one is decent too if u want heat but its more Calabrian than Roman.

The thing most people miss is that La Piadineria lets you build your own, so ask for the crescenza with fichi caramellati and speck if they've got it, that sweet and smoky combo is unreal. Otherwise just get the porchetta one and call it a day, the chain stuff is fine but nothing beats a random spot in Testaccio.

if u want something actually roman in there get the one with porchetta di ariccia if they have it, otherwise ask for crudo, pecorino romano & a drizzle of miele. that sweet salty thing is very lazio. squacquerone is good but its a northern cheese, not roman at all. also heads up a piadina runs like 6-8 euro at the chain, cheaper at a hole in the wall in trastevere

I have a layover in Riga before continuing my journey, and I'm wondering if it would be financially beneficial to purchase my tobacco there. Can anyone provide details on the prices?

tbh duty free at Riga is only worth it if you're buying cartons, single packs at the airport arent that much cheaper than teh tabaccai in Rome. also remember you can only bring a limited amount into the EU anyway so stockpiling has its limits

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

Chesterfield Blue usually runs around 5.50 to 6 euros a pack in Rome these days, though tabaccai prices are fixed by the state so it won't vary much shop to shop. Riga is generally cheaper for cigarettes but your layover time matters, if it's tight you might not have time to clear security and find a shop.

LM Blue in Rome is roughly the same ballpark, around 5.50 to 6 euros. One thing to keep in mind at Riga airport, the duty free selection isn't always great for specific brands like these, so if you're set on LM or Chesterfield you might strike out. I'd check what the actual duty free has before counting on it.
