But I noticed a small, almost hidden room off to the side, the door was slightly ajar. I peeked in, and it looked like a tiny, private dining area, all dark wood and candles. Anyone know what that's about? Is it for special occasions, or just some kind of staff area? I'm dying to know!

I've actually done a wine dinner in that room, it was arranged through a friend who knows the owner. They do these small pairings maybe once a month, not advertised anywhere, you just have to hear about it. The food was incredible but yeah, the lighting is more romantic than practical. If you're after the full experience, I'd say try to land the table near the front window instead, you get the street view and the pasta looks way better in daylight. The room's nice for a date though, if you can handle eating in the dark.

it's actually a private room they've had since like the 90s, the owner's family uses it for their own dinners and to host friends of the kitchen crew. i know someone who worked there, said they sometimes bring out off-menu stuff for those tables, like a cacio e pepe with truffles they don't list anywhere. u can book it if u call ahead and mention u want the "stanza piccola", but they're picky about who gets it. honestly the main dining room is better, that dark wood just makes everything look brown

You're not the first to notice that room. The family that runs Fiore di Zucca has been using it for years as a sort of extended dining table for friends of the house, but they also let it out for anniversary dinners and small business meals if you ask nicely. I've heard the story that it used to be a storage cellar for the bakery that was there before, and they kept the original brickwork when they renovated. If you want a real local experience, skip the room and sit at the bar during lunch, you can watch them roll out the pasta and they'll usually let you taste the ragù before you order.

I have a layover in Riga before continuing my journey, and I'm wondering if it would be financially beneficial to purchase my tobacco there. Can anyone provide details on the prices?

tbh duty free at Riga is only worth it if you're buying cartons, single packs at the airport arent that much cheaper than teh tabaccai in Rome. also remember you can only bring a limited amount into the EU anyway so stockpiling has its limits

Chesterfield Blue usually runs around 5.50 to 6 euros a pack in Rome these days, though tabaccai prices are fixed by the state so it won't vary much shop to shop. Riga is generally cheaper for cigarettes but your layover time matters, if it's tight you might not have time to clear security and find a shop.

LM Blue in Rome is roughly the same ballpark, around 5.50 to 6 euros. One thing to keep in mind at Riga airport, the duty free selection isn't always great for specific brands like these, so if you're set on LM or Chesterfield you might strike out. I'd check what the actual duty free has before counting on it.
