Alfieri Lante's Secret?

They said there were rumors of hidden tunnels or secret passages used back in the day... something about a stash of old textbooks or maybe even something more interesting. Anyone know if those stories are true? I'm dying to explore if they are! Seriously though, any tips for finding out would be appreciated. I'm a sucker for historical mysteries.

oh yeah, I've heard those tunnel stories too. honestly, I think most of it is just old rumors from when the building was a convent or something. but if you're really curious, ask around the local bookshops near Piazza Navona, the older guys there sometimes know the real gossip.

honestly the real secret is the courtyard, not the tunnels. the school was built on top of a 16th century villa that belonged to the Lante family, who were basically roman royalty back then. if you can get inside the courtyard, look for the old well near the back wall - theres a marble plaque that mentions a hidden chapel underneath, but nobody's been able to access it since the 1800s. i used to live two blocks away and my neighbor's grandpa swore the tunnel leads to Palazzo Lante in via dei Coronari, but that's prob just old man talk

ugh, another tourist chasing ghosts. the tunnels are real in the sense that half the city is built on top of old roman stuff, but theyre not some secret harry potter passage. the school sits on top of an ancient aqueduct, not a textbook stash. if u wanna see something

I have a layover in Riga before continuing my journey, and I'm wondering if it would be financially beneficial to purchase my tobacco there. Can anyone provide details on the prices?

tbh duty free at Riga is only worth it if you're buying cartons, single packs at the airport arent that much cheaper than teh tabaccai in Rome. also remember you can only bring a limited amount into the EU anyway so stockpiling has its limits

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

Chesterfield Blue usually runs around 5.50 to 6 euros a pack in Rome these days, though tabaccai prices are fixed by the state so it won't vary much shop to shop. Riga is generally cheaper for cigarettes but your layover time matters, if it's tight you might not have time to clear security and find a shop.

LM Blue in Rome is roughly the same ballpark, around 5.50 to 6 euros. One thing to keep in mind at Riga airport, the duty free selection isn't always great for specific brands like these, so if you're set on LM or Chesterfield you might strike out. I'd check what the actual duty free has before counting on it.
