Chembur's Best Kept Secret?

They've lived there for ages, but all they ever talk about is the traffic! Seriously, they complain more about the traffic than any other city I've ever heard of. But they never mention anything fun. So, I'm curious...what's the one thing locals do for fun in Chembur that tourists or even other Mumbaikars never seem to find out about? Is there a hidden chai stall, a fantastic street food cart, or a secret park that's a must-see? Help a clueless visitor out!

ngl the thing nobody talks about is the morning walk culture at the Mahul creek side, not the fancy promenade but the stretch near the old BARC quarters. around 5:30am you'll see a bunch of retirees and early birds just sitting on the rocks watching the sun come up over the mangroves, it's dead quiet except for the birds and the occasional train horn. there's a chai guy who sets up his stove right there with a little karigai, he makes cutting chai with real mumbai masala, 10 rupees a cup. most people in chembur just go to the big parks but this spot feels like a secret even the locals forget about.

honestly the real hidden gem is the koliwada fishing village area near the mangroves. most people don't even know it exists because it's tucked behind the main road. go early morning around 6am and you'll see the fishing boats coming in, the whole place smells like the sea and fresh catch. there's this one aunty who sells bombil fry straight from her house near the jetty, costs like 60 bucks and it's better than any restaurant version. just follow the road past the petrol pump near tilak nagar until you hit the water

You know what, your family's right about the traffic, but they're missing the good stuff. Head to the little temple area near Diamond Garden around 7pm, there's a bhel puri guy who's been there for over 15 years. It's not fancy, just a cart under a tree, but his sev puri is the best I've had in Chembur. Most people just drive past without noticing.

I want to sell my old clothes

ngl the easiest way is to just hand them over to a scrapwala near your building, they'll sort through and take what they want, rest goes to recycling. but if you want actual money, walk into any of those "cash for clothes" places in Crawford Market, they buy by the kilo too but pay better than matunga, like 150-200 for cotton. just don't bring anything with stains or tears, they'll reject it outright and you'll waste your time hauling it there

fwiw you could also try the Instagram thrift stores that are based out of mumbai, like "bombay thrift store" or "mumbai thrift club". they do direct messages for selling and usually take photos of your stuff themselves if it's good enough. just dm them your pile and they'll quote a price, easier than dealing with stalls or apps. also, if you have any branded stuff, try the "luxury thrift" pages instead, they pay way better for zara or h&m than the general ones

The St. Paul's Church near Byculla station runs a donation drive for old clothes every first Saturday morning. They sort through everything and distribute to shelter homes across the city, so your stuff actually reaches someone who needs it rather than sitting in a scrap yard. Just drop off before 11am or the volunteers pack up for the day.
