Prakash Inn Mysteries?

It was...interesting. The staff were super friendly, the chai was amazing, but my room had this weird humming noise all night. It wasn't loud, just a constant, low thrum. I couldn't figure out what it was. Anyone else stayed there and experienced this? Maybe it's just old plumbing, but it kept me up! I even checked the walls for hidden passages... nothing. Seriously though, what was that noise?

nah that humming is pretty common in the older buildings around colaba. it's usually the water pumps in the basement or the old ac units running through the walls. prakash inn is like 80 years old at least, the pipes are ancient. if you walk down saheb bazaar lane at night you can hear the same thing from half the buildings there. next time ask for a room on the top floor, the noise is way less noticeable up there

Old buildings in Mumbai? They've got stories. That low hum... could be anything from dodgy wiring (common enough!) to... well, Mumbai's got a certain... energy. Maybe it was just the city breathing. Seriously though, I'd bet on faulty electrical work before hidden passages. But hey, a good story is a good story! If it was anything supernatural, at least the chai was great.

lived in colaba for years, pretty sure that hum is the generator for the building next door. prakash inn shares a wall with that old commercial complex and their backup generator kicks in at night. you get used to it after a while but yeah it's annoying at first

I want to sell my old clothes

ngl the easiest way is to just hand them over to a scrapwala near your building, they'll sort through and take what they want, rest goes to recycling. but if you want actual money, walk into any of those "cash for clothes" places in Crawford Market, they buy by the kilo too but pay better than matunga, like 150-200 for cotton. just don't bring anything with stains or tears, they'll reject it outright and you'll waste your time hauling it there

fwiw you could also try the Instagram thrift stores that are based out of mumbai, like "bombay thrift store" or "mumbai thrift club". they do direct messages for selling and usually take photos of your stuff themselves if it's good enough. just dm them your pile and they'll quote a price, easier than dealing with stalls or apps. also, if you have any branded stuff, try the "luxury thrift" pages instead, they pay way better for zara or h&m than the general ones

The St. Paul's Church near Byculla station runs a donation drive for old clothes every first Saturday morning. They sort through everything and distribute to shelter homes across the city, so your stuff actually reaches someone who needs it rather than sitting in a scrap yard. Just drop off before 11am or the volunteers pack up for the day.
