I've heard it's a bit of a sprawling suburb... anyone know of any really good, unassuming local eateries? Something away from the usual tourist traps, you know? I'm craving authentic Mumbai street food, but I don't wanna end up at some overpriced tourist joint. Any tips on finding the hidden gems, the places the locals go to? I'm all ears!

If you're willing to walk a bit off the main road, try Anand Stall near the old Gandhi Market. It's just a counter with a few plastic stools, but their pav bhaji is the kind of buttery, mashed mess that tastes like someone's grandmother is in the back. Get the extra pav, it's a rupee or two more and worth it. It gets crowded around 7:30 with office workers and auto drivers, which is a good sign.

Head straight to Guru Kripa on Central Avenue, right next to the Sion-Trombay Road junction. It's a tiny joint that's been around for decades and does a mean plate of Misal Pav and Batata Vada that actually tastes like they put some thought into it. The chutneys are what set them apart, especially the dry garlic one. Just go before 8 PM or they'll run out of the good stuff.

ngl, skip the usual joints and go to Ayyappa's Stall near the diamond garden signal. it's a cart that sets up around 6pm and does the best bombay style egg rolls i've had in the eastern suburbs. the guy's been there for 25 years and his masala omelette with pav is stupid good, costs like 60 bucks. just don't expect a chair, you eat standing on the footpath like everyone else

I want to sell my old clothes

ngl the easiest way is to just hand them over to a scrapwala near your building, they'll sort through and take what they want, rest goes to recycling. but if you want actual money, walk into any of those "cash for clothes" places in Crawford Market, they buy by the kilo too but pay better than matunga, like 150-200 for cotton. just don't bring anything with stains or tears, they'll reject it outright and you'll waste your time hauling it there

fwiw you could also try the Instagram thrift stores that are based out of mumbai, like "bombay thrift store" or "mumbai thrift club". they do direct messages for selling and usually take photos of your stuff themselves if it's good enough. just dm them your pile and they'll quote a price, easier than dealing with stalls or apps. also, if you have any branded stuff, try the "luxury thrift" pages instead, they pay way better for zara or h&m than the general ones

The St. Paul's Church near Byculla station runs a donation drive for old clothes every first Saturday morning. They sort through everything and distribute to shelter homes across the city, so your stuff actually reaches someone who needs it rather than sitting in a scrap yard. Just drop off before 11am or the volunteers pack up for the day.
