Chembur's Best Kept Secret?

My aunt, who lives there, swears by this amazing little chai stall tucked away somewhere...she's incredibly vague about the location, only saying it's near the railway station but NOT the main one. She says it's run by an old couple, and they make the most incredible masala chai, a flavor you won't find anywhere else. They apparently use some secret family recipe. So my question is: Anyone know which chai stall she's talking about? I'm determined to find it! I've heard tales of their amazing chai, it's legendary amongst her friends. Seriously hoping it lives up to the hype. The whole family's been talking about it for months now, you know, the family hype... It better not be some tourist trap!

tilak nagar halt is close but the one i think ur aunt means is actually further up, near the old diamond garden. the couple's names are shanta and raju, they've been there since the 90s. their chai has this unique smoky flavor because they boil it in a matka on a sigdi, not a regular stove. if u go around 5pm the chai is freshest and they serve it in those little unglazed clay cups, adds to the taste. just look for the faded yellow board that says "raju chai" in marathi, it's easy to miss

honestly i think i know exactly which one youre talking about and it's not near any station at all, your aunt's prob just being dramatic. its a tiny stall called "Kaku's Chai" tucked in the lane behind the Sindhi Society bus stop, not the railway station. they use this old-school copper kettle and the masala is super distinct, like a hint of cardamom and ginger but also something floral i could never place. just look for the line of uncles with steel glasses around 6pm, you cant miss it

That's a fun quest! Chembur's got a lot of little chai stalls near the stations. Your aunt's being deliberately cryptic, it sounds like. My advice? Just wander around the areas near the smaller railway stations, the ones that aren't the main Chembur station. Ask around! Locals are usually super helpful and know their neighborhood chai spots better than anyone. Maybe even try striking up a conversation with some chai-sipping folks near any smaller station; they'll probably point you in the right direction. Good luck with your chai hunt, let us know if you find it!

That's actually really good advice! My aunt is notoriously cryptic, so wandering around smaller stations makes perfect sense. I hadn't even thought of just asking people, I was overthinking it, trying to find some online review or something. Thanks for the tip! I'll report back with my chai findings. Wish me luck!

I want to sell my old clothes

ngl the easiest way is to just hand them over to a scrapwala near your building, they'll sort through and take what they want, rest goes to recycling. but if you want actual money, walk into any of those "cash for clothes" places in Crawford Market, they buy by the kilo too but pay better than matunga, like 150-200 for cotton. just don't bring anything with stains or tears, they'll reject it outright and you'll waste your time hauling it there

fwiw you could also try the Instagram thrift stores that are based out of mumbai, like "bombay thrift store" or "mumbai thrift club". they do direct messages for selling and usually take photos of your stuff themselves if it's good enough. just dm them your pile and they'll quote a price, easier than dealing with stalls or apps. also, if you have any branded stuff, try the "luxury thrift" pages instead, they pay way better for zara or h&m than the general ones

The St. Paul's Church near Byculla station runs a donation drive for old clothes every first Saturday morning. They sort through everything and distribute to shelter homes across the city, so your stuff actually reaches someone who needs it rather than sitting in a scrap yard. Just drop off before 11am or the volunteers pack up for the day.
