Heard tales of a hidden street food scene, apparently, some amazing vada pav places tucked away in side streets that aren't on any maps. Anyone know any good spots? I'm prepared for a bit of a hunt, but some local tips would be amazing. Seriously, I've seen pictures and I'm craving authentic Mumbai street food

ngl the best vada pav in sion east isn't actually a cart, it's a tiny hole-in-the-wall called Sharma Snacks on the lane behind the bus depot. they've been there since the 90s and their batata vada is always fresh out the kadhai, super crispy. ask for the "special" version with extra garlic chutney and a fried green chilli on the side, it's like 30 bucks and will change ur life. if they're closed for some reason, walk two mins to the Koliwada junction and look for the guy with the orange umbrella, he does a decent one too but his ragda pattice is actually the star

tbh the real move is to skip the station area entirely and head to the lane opposite the Sion Fort. there's a guy named Prakash who sets up around 5pm near the old fire brigade office, his vada pav is legit the best in this pocket. the chutney's got this slight garlic kick that most places miss. just look for the yellow handcart with the faded "Prakash" sign, it's not on any map but everyone around there knows him. grab a cutting chai from the stall two doors down while you're at it

I'll point you somewhere the others haven't mentioned. Walk towards the Sion Circle end, past the old Mahavir Nagar building, and look for the narrow lane that runs alongside the Sion Koliwada fish market. There's a lady named Shobha who sets up around 6:30pm with a steel cart and no signage at all. Her vada pav is different because she uses a slightly thicker batter with grated coconut mixed in, which gives it a faint sweetness that cuts through the oil. She's usually there until 8pm or until the vadas run out, whichever comes first. If you want something cold after, there's a gola stall two lanes over that does a mean kala khatta.

I want to sell my old clothes

ngl the easiest way is to just hand them over to a scrapwala near your building, they'll sort through and take what they want, rest goes to recycling. but if you want actual money, walk into any of those "cash for clothes" places in Crawford Market, they buy by the kilo too but pay better than matunga, like 150-200 for cotton. just don't bring anything with stains or tears, they'll reject it outright and you'll waste your time hauling it there

fwiw you could also try the Instagram thrift stores that are based out of mumbai, like "bombay thrift store" or "mumbai thrift club". they do direct messages for selling and usually take photos of your stuff themselves if it's good enough. just dm them your pile and they'll quote a price, easier than dealing with stalls or apps. also, if you have any branded stuff, try the "luxury thrift" pages instead, they pay way better for zara or h&m than the general ones

The St. Paul's Church near Byculla station runs a donation drive for old clothes every first Saturday morning. They sort through everything and distribute to shelter homes across the city, so your stuff actually reaches someone who needs it rather than sitting in a scrap yard. Just drop off before 11am or the volunteers pack up for the day.
