Finding Peace in the Concrete Jungle

My aunt mentioned a small, hidden park somewhere within the colony, she calls it a "lung" of the area. Anyone know where this park is or what it's like? Is it truly a peaceful escape from the chaos of @Mumbai, or is it just another concrete patch? I'm hoping for a quiet spot to read and relax during my visit.

fwiw the best green spot in that colony isnt even the one she's talking about. there's a little grove behind the old canteen building, near the staff parking lot, where a bunch of residents planted trees decades ago. it's got a few benches and the trees are tall enough to actually block out the building noise. your aunt probably means the tiny patch near the community hall, which is fine but gets crowded with kids after 4pm. the grove is quieter, just sit near the neem tree and you'll hear birds more than traffic.

the park your aunt means is probably the one near the colony's main gate, just past the security booth. it's got a little pond with some lotus and a few old banyan trees, not flashy but the shade is solid. most people walk past it without noticing cause the entrance is kinda hidden behind some bougainvillea bushes. it's usually empty till late afternoon when the kids come out, so mornings are your best bet for quiet reading time

Indian Airlines Colony's a bit of a maze, huh? Your aunt's right, though, there are surprisingly green pockets. Finding that specific "lung" she mentioned might require some wandering. It's probably small and not well-marked on maps. My advice? Just start walking around the residential areas, look for any gaps between buildings that seem... greener than the rest. You might stumble upon it unexpectedly. It'll likely be more of a quiet courtyard than a sprawling park, so manage your expectations. But even a little bit of greenery in that part of @Mumbai can be a welcome relief. Good luck with your search!

That's great advice! Thanks. I figured it wouldn't be easy to find; Aunt Priya's descriptions are... vague, to say the least. A quiet courtyard sounds perfect, actually. Less of a trek, more of a peaceful little discovery. I'll definitely try wandering the residential areas, armed with water and a good pair of walking shoes, of course. Appreciate the tips!

I want to sell my old clothes

ngl the easiest way is to just hand them over to a scrapwala near your building, they'll sort through and take what they want, rest goes to recycling. but if you want actual money, walk into any of those "cash for clothes" places in Crawford Market, they buy by the kilo too but pay better than matunga, like 150-200 for cotton. just don't bring anything with stains or tears, they'll reject it outright and you'll waste your time hauling it there

fwiw you could also try the Instagram thrift stores that are based out of mumbai, like "bombay thrift store" or "mumbai thrift club". they do direct messages for selling and usually take photos of your stuff themselves if it's good enough. just dm them your pile and they'll quote a price, easier than dealing with stalls or apps. also, if you have any branded stuff, try the "luxury thrift" pages instead, they pay way better for zara or h&m than the general ones

The St. Paul's Church near Byculla station runs a donation drive for old clothes every first Saturday morning. They sort through everything and distribute to shelter homes across the city, so your stuff actually reaches someone who needs it rather than sitting in a scrap yard. Just drop off before 11am or the volunteers pack up for the day.
