Chembur's Best Kept Secret?

My aunt always talks about this amazing little chai stall tucked away somewhere, she says it's legendary, but refuses to give me directions. She just keeps saying "you'll find it... if you're meant to." Sounds ominous, right? Seriously though, anyone know about this mystical chai place? I'm prepared for a quest.

The second reply is close but there's a spot near the old Pragati Nagar chowk that fits the "legendary" description better. It's not a stall with a kettle, it's a tiny shopfront painted faded blue, no sign at all, run by an older couple. They serve their chai in those small unglazed clay cups, you crush it after and toss it in the bin. Opens at 6am sharp, closes by 9am, then again at 5pm till they run out, which is usually by 7pm. If you're walking from the Sion Chembur side, go past the broken signal and look for the lane with the old tailor shop on the corner, the one with the mannequin out front that's missing an arm.

honestly your aunt might be talking about the stall behind the old sion chembur canteen, it's not a chai stall per se but more of a guy with a cart near the lane where the garment shops are. he uses this thick earthen pot and the chai has a distinct smoky flavor, super hard to find unless you know the exact timing around 7am or 6pm. if you walk past the diamond garden towards the natraj market side and take a right at the broken signal light you might hear the clinking of small steel glasses

Your aunt is probably talking about the stall near the old Diamond Garden bus stop, the one that's been there for like 40 years. It doesn't have a name, just a guy with a big steel kettle who sets up around 5pm. The chai is thick and sweet with a hint of cardamom, and you'll know you're close when you see the crowd spilling onto the footpath. If you're heading from the Chembur station side, take the first left past the post office and walk until you smell the masala.

I want to sell my old clothes

ngl the easiest way is to just hand them over to a scrapwala near your building, they'll sort through and take what they want, rest goes to recycling. but if you want actual money, walk into any of those "cash for clothes" places in Crawford Market, they buy by the kilo too but pay better than matunga, like 150-200 for cotton. just don't bring anything with stains or tears, they'll reject it outright and you'll waste your time hauling it there

fwiw you could also try the Instagram thrift stores that are based out of mumbai, like "bombay thrift store" or "mumbai thrift club". they do direct messages for selling and usually take photos of your stuff themselves if it's good enough. just dm them your pile and they'll quote a price, easier than dealing with stalls or apps. also, if you have any branded stuff, try the "luxury thrift" pages instead, they pay way better for zara or h&m than the general ones

The St. Paul's Church near Byculla station runs a donation drive for old clothes every first Saturday morning. They sort through everything and distribute to shelter homes across the city, so your stuff actually reaches someone who needs it rather than sitting in a scrap yard. Just drop off before 11am or the volunteers pack up for the day.
