Heard tales of old hidden tunnels and forgotten stories connected to it... anyone know of any local legends or less touristy things to check out near the fort? Maybe some tucked-away street food joints that aren't in the guidebooks? I want to experience something authentic, not just the usual sightseeing stuff. Hoping to avoid the crowds too, if possible.

ngl the tunnel thing is a fun story but nobody's found anything real in decades. if you want something actually offbeat, walk toward the Sion bus depot and take the left into the lane behind the old municipal school. there's a tiny Irani cafe that's been there since the 70s, no name on the board, just a red door. they do a mean brun maska and the chai is thick enough to stand a spoon in. most people walk right past it.

also if you're around on a sunday morning, the veg market near the fort gets this weird flea market vibe where old guys sell random junk like vintage bollywood posters and rusty locks. it's not touristy at all, just locals digging through stuff. grab a kanda poha from the cart by the entrance while you're there, that guy's been there for years.

The tunnel stories are fun but what's more interesting is the old Parsi settlement a few blocks south of the fort. Walk past the Sion police station and take the first right, you'll hit a row of houses with these beautiful colored glass windows. There's a family that still makes wax figures for the churches nearby, you can sometimes see them working through the open door if you're quiet about it. For food, skip the main road and go to the lane opposite the Sion hospital, there's a lady who sets up a stall for misal pav around 11am. She uses this really dark gravy that most people find too spicy but regulars love it. The crowds thin out completely on weekday afternoons, that's when the area feels most genuine.

honestly those tunnel stories are mostly bunk but there's some cool graffitti on the fort walls if you look closely near the back entrance. walk down the gully parallel to Sion Circle, the one with all the auto repair shops, there's a guy who makes bomb chicken frankies for like 40 bucks. no sign, just a tawa and a line of locals around 6pm. also if you're up for a short walk, the old Sion hospital has this creepy abandoned wing that's kinda wild to peek at from the outside, nobody bothers you there.

I want to sell my old clothes

ngl the easiest way is to just hand them over to a scrapwala near your building, they'll sort through and take what they want, rest goes to recycling. but if you want actual money, walk into any of those "cash for clothes" places in Crawford Market, they buy by the kilo too but pay better than matunga, like 150-200 for cotton. just don't bring anything with stains or tears, they'll reject it outright and you'll waste your time hauling it there

fwiw you could also try the Instagram thrift stores that are based out of mumbai, like "bombay thrift store" or "mumbai thrift club". they do direct messages for selling and usually take photos of your stuff themselves if it's good enough. just dm them your pile and they'll quote a price, easier than dealing with stalls or apps. also, if you have any branded stuff, try the "luxury thrift" pages instead, they pay way better for zara or h&m than the general ones

The St. Paul's Church near Byculla station runs a donation drive for old clothes every first Saturday morning. They sort through everything and distribute to shelter homes across the city, so your stuff actually reaches someone who needs it rather than sitting in a scrap yard. Just drop off before 11am or the volunteers pack up for the day.
