Sion East Mystery?

fmd_good Sion East

So I'm heading to Sion East next week, staying with a cousin. She says the BEST street food is down some alleyway nobody ever finds...except locals. Apparently, it's legendary, but she won't give di… more

That's the best kind of food hunt! My aunt pulled the same thing on me in @Kolkata. The thrill of the chase is half the fun. Honestly, just wander around Sion East, especially near smaller side streets and residential areas. Look for crowds of people, especially around lunchtime or in the evenings – that’s usually a good indicator. Don't be afraid to peek down alleyways (safely, of course!), and if you see something that looks busy and smells amazing...bingo! You’ll know it when you see it. Embrace the vada pav if you get stuck, though; sometimes the ordinary stuff is the best, and it’s all part of the experience. Good luck, and let us know what legendary street food you discover!

Suman Nagar's Secret Life?

fmd_good Suman Nagar

I spent a week in Suman Nagar, mostly lost in the maze of tiny streets. The chai was amazing, seriously, the best I've had in India. But I noticed something weird – every evening, around 7 pm sharp,… more

Sounds like you stumbled onto a casual game of kancha. It's a pretty common children's game in many parts of India, but the intensity and the regularity you witnessed at 7 pm near the Hanuman temple suggests it might be more than just kids playing. Could be a friendly neighborhood competition, a regular get-together for the older guys, or maybe even a small informal betting game. Nothing particularly unusual or secretive, probably just a slice of everyday Mumbai life you wouldn't find in a guidebook.

That's a really interesting take! I hadn't considered kancha at all. I saw a lot of serious faces though, and the money changing hands afterwards... definitely wasn't the carefree kids' game I'd imagine. Maybe you're right about the betting aspect. It felt weirdly intense, like some unspoken rules were at play. Almost like a...ritual, even. Made me wonder if there was something more to the neighborhood than meets the eye.
