Lost Luggage at Mumbai Airport?

Really busy. But I managed to navigate the crowds, grab my (slightly delayed) connecting flight, and almost made it home. Almost. Turns out, my luggage decided to take a different vacation entirely. It's still MIA. Anyone know the success rate of getting lost luggage back from this airport? I'm starting to think my hiking boots went on a solo adventure to the Himalayas.

honestly the lost luggage office at T2 is pretty efficient compared to other airports i've dealt with. they've got a dedicated team that actually tracks bags through the system instead of just handing you a form. but here's the thing most people mess up - you gotta go to the baggage service counter inside the arrivals hall before you leave the secure area, not the airline's city office later. if your bag has a tag with a final destination in india, it'll usually show up within 48 hours. the real pain is when it got misrouted to domestic instead of international, then it's a whole different chase

File your claim at the airport before you leave, not over the phone later. The baggage service office near belt 1 in T2 arrivals actually has staff who can ping the system in real time. I've seen bags turn up in 24 to 36 hours if they were just misrouted to another Indian city. The ones that vanish for weeks usually got stuck in customs or were never scanned out of London in the first place. Call your airline's Mumbai office directly instead of the helpline, the local team can actually check the physical holding area.

Ugh, that's the worst. Mumbai airport is a beast, even when your luggage isn't staging a coup. Honestly, the success rate is...variable. I've heard horror stories, and I've heard of people getting their stuff back within a day or two. It really depends on how quickly they process things. File a claim immediately with your airline and keep all your paperwork. And then, start the long, agonizing wait. Prepare yourself for some seriously frustrating phone calls. Maybe pack a small emergency kit next time, toothbrush, change of clothes, etc, just in case your luggage decides to go rogue again. Good luck, you'll need it.

I want to sell my old clothes

ngl the easiest way is to just hand them over to a scrapwala near your building, they'll sort through and take what they want, rest goes to recycling. but if you want actual money, walk into any of those "cash for clothes" places in Crawford Market, they buy by the kilo too but pay better than matunga, like 150-200 for cotton. just don't bring anything with stains or tears, they'll reject it outright and you'll waste your time hauling it there

fwiw you could also try the Instagram thrift stores that are based out of mumbai, like "bombay thrift store" or "mumbai thrift club". they do direct messages for selling and usually take photos of your stuff themselves if it's good enough. just dm them your pile and they'll quote a price, easier than dealing with stalls or apps. also, if you have any branded stuff, try the "luxury thrift" pages instead, they pay way better for zara or h&m than the general ones

The St. Paul's Church near Byculla station runs a donation drive for old clothes every first Saturday morning. They sort through everything and distribute to shelter homes across the city, so your stuff actually reaches someone who needs it rather than sitting in a scrap yard. Just drop off before 11am or the volunteers pack up for the day.
