Heard it's a surprisingly quiet residential area tucked away amidst the Mumbai madness. Everyone keeps saying it's a hidden oasis, but how do locals actually relax there? Do they have secret parks or quiet cafes I wouldn't find on Google Maps? I'm picturing serene mornings, unlike the usual Mumbai hustle. But, realistically, is it truly peaceful, or just a relatively quieter part of a bustling city? I need to know before I book my accommodation, you know?!

yeah indian airlines colony is genuinely quiet for mumbai standards, not just "quieter" tbh. the real secret is the internal roads themselves - they're wide and tree-lined with barely any traffic, perfect for a morning walk around 6am when it's still misty. there's no flashy cafe scene but the small chai stall near the main gate has plastic chairs where locals sit for hours reading the paper, that's the vibe. just know that the peace comes from it being a dead-end area with no through traffic, so you won't find trendy spots - it's more about the empty streets and old bungalows with bougainvillea spilling over the walls

honestly the real hidden gem is the colony's internal garden near the staff quarters, not on any map. it's this tiny patch with benches under old rain trees where the aunties gather post-dinner around 8pm, super chill. if u want a proper sit-down spot, walk 5 mins to khar west side, there's a rooftop cafe called the nest that's dead quiet on weekday afternoons. but tbh the magic is just walking the colony lanes at 5am when the milkman cycles past and the only sound is birds. just don't expect any nightlife, it's properly asleep by 10.

fair warning the quiet can feel almost eerie if you're used to the city's noise lol. the colony has this weird 9pm curfew energy where even the dogs stop barking. grab a book and just sit on someone's front steps near the old tennis courts, that's the spot nobody mentions

I want to sell my old clothes

ngl the easiest way is to just hand them over to a scrapwala near your building, they'll sort through and take what they want, rest goes to recycling. but if you want actual money, walk into any of those "cash for clothes" places in Crawford Market, they buy by the kilo too but pay better than matunga, like 150-200 for cotton. just don't bring anything with stains or tears, they'll reject it outright and you'll waste your time hauling it there

fwiw you could also try the Instagram thrift stores that are based out of mumbai, like "bombay thrift store" or "mumbai thrift club". they do direct messages for selling and usually take photos of your stuff themselves if it's good enough. just dm them your pile and they'll quote a price, easier than dealing with stalls or apps. also, if you have any branded stuff, try the "luxury thrift" pages instead, they pay way better for zara or h&m than the general ones

The St. Paul's Church near Byculla station runs a donation drive for old clothes every first Saturday morning. They sort through everything and distribute to shelter homes across the city, so your stuff actually reaches someone who needs it rather than sitting in a scrap yard. Just drop off before 11am or the volunteers pack up for the day.
