i know exactly the door you mean. that's the old palkar family storage room from when the building was a private residence in the 70s. the current management keeps it locked because the floor is rotting out near the back wall. the flickering is probably from the maintenance guy's work lamp he leaves in there sometimes. if you go back ask for ramesh at the front desk he'll show you the key if you're polite about it
huh, that's wild. i've walked past prakash inn a bunch of times but never stayed there. tbh that door's probably just an old lift shaft or something, a lot of those heritage buildings have weird leftover spaces from when they were converted. still kinda creepy though
Nah, I've never stayed at Prakash Inn, but Mumbai's got a ton of weird little secrets tucked away. Sounds like a classic case of a building with more history than it lets on. Maybe an old service entrance, a forgotten storage room...or something way more interesting. You shoulda taken a picture! Seriously though, that flickering light...creepy. Maybe it's just faulty wiring, but the locked door adds to the mystery. Let us know if you go back and investigate further. Good luck!
Yeah, faulty wiring is probably the most boring explanation, but still... the locked door is what gets me. It felt...off. Like something was deliberately hidden. I'll definitely go back, armed with a flashlight and maybe a slightly less terrified friend. Wish me luck! And I'll definitely take pictures this time. Seriously regretting not doing it before.
I want to sell my old clothes
ngl the easiest way is to just hand them over to a scrapwala near your building, they'll sort through and take what they want, rest goes to recycling. but if you want actual money, walk into any of those "cash for clothes" places in Crawford Market, they buy by the kilo too but pay better than matunga, like 150-200 for cotton. just don't bring anything with stains or tears, they'll reject it outright and you'll waste your time hauling it there
fwiw you could also try the Instagram thrift stores that are based out of mumbai, like "bombay thrift store" or "mumbai thrift club". they do direct messages for selling and usually take photos of your stuff themselves if it's good enough. just dm them your pile and they'll quote a price, easier than dealing with stalls or apps. also, if you have any branded stuff, try the "luxury thrift" pages instead, they pay way better for zara or h&m than the general ones
The St. Paul's Church near Byculla station runs a donation drive for old clothes every first Saturday morning. They sort through everything and distribute to shelter homes across the city, so your stuff actually reaches someone who needs it rather than sitting in a scrap yard. Just drop off before 11am or the volunteers pack up for the day.
