Finding Peace in the Concrete Jungle?

fmd_good Indian Airlines Colony

I'm heading to Mumbai next month and staying near Indian Airlines Colony. Heard it's a bit of a maze, a real sprawl of buildings. My friend who lives near there described it as chaotic but oddly ch… more

Honestly, finding quiet in Mumbai is like finding a needle in a haystack of delicious street food. But near Indian Airlines Colony? You might be surprised. Try the gardens at the nearby Bandra Reclamation. It's not exactly hidden, but it offers a nice sea breeze and usually less chaotic than other areas. It’s a decent spot for people-watching and escaping the immediate bustle. Could be worth a shot for a few peaceful hours. Alternatively, some of the smaller lanes away from the main roads in that area can be surprisingly calm – just wander a bit and you'll find pockets of relative quiet. Don't expect total silence, but a step down from the main road noise is definitely possible.

Suman Nagar's Secret Life?

fmd_good Suman Nagar

I spent a week in Suman Nagar, mostly lost in the maze of tiny streets. The chai was amazing, seriously, the best I've had in India. But I noticed something weird – every evening, around 7 pm sharp,… more

Sounds like you stumbled onto a casual game of kancha. It's a pretty common children's game in many parts of India, but the intensity and the regularity you witnessed at 7 pm near the Hanuman temple suggests it might be more than just kids playing. Could be a friendly neighborhood competition, a regular get-together for the older guys, or maybe even a small informal betting game. Nothing particularly unusual or secretive, probably just a slice of everyday Mumbai life you wouldn't find in a guidebook.

That's a really interesting take! I hadn't considered kancha at all. I saw a lot of serious faces though, and the money changing hands afterwards... definitely wasn't the carefree kids' game I'd imagine. Maybe you're right about the betting aspect. It felt weirdly intense, like some unspoken rules were at play. Almost like a...ritual, even. Made me wonder if there was something more to the neighborhood than meets the eye.
