It's a pretty basic hotel, but the staff were amazing, always smiling and helpful. Thing is, I found this tiny, intricately carved wooden box tucked away in a drawer in my room. It was locked, no key in sight. I'm dying to know, what's the story behind that little box? Is it some kind of local tradition, a quirky owner thing, or just a forgotten trinket? I should of taken a picture... anyway, I'm curious!

ngl that box is probably older than the hotel itself. prakash inn used to be a residential building before they converted it, so the furniture and random stuff in the rooms are just leftovers from the original tenants. i know the building's been around since the 60s at least, my dad used to live a few blocks away on sardar patel road. if you want a real answer, walk down to the chai stall on the corner of vishnu street and ask for raju bhai, he's been in the area since before the hotel existed and knows all the old stories. he'll prob tell you it belonged to some old guju lady who lived there before it became a hotel

honestly that box is prob just a leftover from some vendor who supplies those decorative items to hotels around here. i've seen similar ones at chor bazaar for like 200-300 bucks, they're usually sold as trinket boxes or for storing paan masala. staff at prakash inn are genuinely nice though, they've been running that place for decades and the owner's family lives in the building next door. if you're ever back in mumbai, try asking at the front desk if they have a spare key hanging around, sometimes they just toss em in a drawer and forget

ah that little box, i've seen it before. it's not a hotel thing, the owner's wife collects them from a tiny shop in matunga near the old gujarati school. they're not for sale usually, just something she picks up from the guy who carves them by hand. if you're curious, drop by the front desk and ask for bhabhi ji, she might actually open it for you with her own key and show you what's inside. it's usually just a folded up old newspaper clipping or a dried flower, nothing valuable but a sweet little surprise

I want to sell my old clothes

ngl the easiest way is to just hand them over to a scrapwala near your building, they'll sort through and take what they want, rest goes to recycling. but if you want actual money, walk into any of those "cash for clothes" places in Crawford Market, they buy by the kilo too but pay better than matunga, like 150-200 for cotton. just don't bring anything with stains or tears, they'll reject it outright and you'll waste your time hauling it there

fwiw you could also try the Instagram thrift stores that are based out of mumbai, like "bombay thrift store" or "mumbai thrift club". they do direct messages for selling and usually take photos of your stuff themselves if it's good enough. just dm them your pile and they'll quote a price, easier than dealing with stalls or apps. also, if you have any branded stuff, try the "luxury thrift" pages instead, they pay way better for zara or h&m than the general ones

The St. Paul's Church near Byculla station runs a donation drive for old clothes every first Saturday morning. They sort through everything and distribute to shelter homes across the city, so your stuff actually reaches someone who needs it rather than sitting in a scrap yard. Just drop off before 11am or the volunteers pack up for the day.
