Sion East Mysteries?

The whole area around the station is totally different, all these new buildings have sprung up. Anyway, my aunt took me to this tiny little chai stall near the railway tracks, hidden down a side street... best chai I've ever had. Seriously. The thing is, I can't find it again. I tried, I swear! I even asked around, but nobody seemed to know what I was talking about. So, my question is: are there any other legendary, hidden chai stalls in Sion East that I should know about before my next visit? I need to find that chai again... it was that good.

The chai stall near the railway tracks you're describing sounds like it could be the one tucked behind the old Irani bakery on the Sion East side of the bridge, the one that's been there for ages. It's easy to miss because it's sandwiched between a scrap metal shop and a wall, but the guy uses a copper kettle and serves it in those tiny clay cups. If that's not the one, head toward the lane just off the main road near the Sion Fort gate, there's a stall that opens around 5am and closes by 9am, run by an older man who's been at it since the 90s. His chai has a distinct cardamom kick that's hard to find anywhere else in the area.

yeah sion east is a trip these days, all those redevelopment towers near the station changed the whole vibe. but the real chai spots are still in the old gullies behind the sion fort hospital side, not the station area. try walking down the lane opposite the dominos on sion circle, there's a guy who sets up near the pharmacy around 7pm, his cutting chai is legit thick and sweet. also check near the matunga border, just past the flyover, some stalls there have been running for decades and nobody talks about them online.

Wow, that's a bummer about the chai stall! Sion East's a maze, especially around the station. It's constantly evolving. Finding that perfect chai wallah is like finding a needle in a haystack of vada pav.

Honestly, I don't have a specific hidden gem to recommend, those places are usually found, not sought. My advice? Wander aimlessly around the station area on your next trip, but maybe during off-peak hours. The more chaotic the better, really. Look for tiny stalls tucked away in alleyways, the smaller and more inconspicuous, the more likely it's serving up something amazing. Chat with locals; sometimes they know the best spots. Good luck with your chai quest! You'll find it eventually, I bet.

That's great advice! Wandering aimlessly sounds like exactly the kind of thing I need to do. I figured it would be something like that. The chaos is half the fun, I guess. I'll definitely try chatting with some locals too, that's a smart idea. Thanks for the tips, I appreciate it. I'll report back on my chai-finding adventures.

I want to sell my old clothes

ngl the easiest way is to just hand them over to a scrapwala near your building, they'll sort through and take what they want, rest goes to recycling. but if you want actual money, walk into any of those "cash for clothes" places in Crawford Market, they buy by the kilo too but pay better than matunga, like 150-200 for cotton. just don't bring anything with stains or tears, they'll reject it outright and you'll waste your time hauling it there

fwiw you could also try the Instagram thrift stores that are based out of mumbai, like "bombay thrift store" or "mumbai thrift club". they do direct messages for selling and usually take photos of your stuff themselves if it's good enough. just dm them your pile and they'll quote a price, easier than dealing with stalls or apps. also, if you have any branded stuff, try the "luxury thrift" pages instead, they pay way better for zara or h&m than the general ones

The St. Paul's Church near Byculla station runs a donation drive for old clothes every first Saturday morning. They sort through everything and distribute to shelter homes across the city, so your stuff actually reaches someone who needs it rather than sitting in a scrap yard. Just drop off before 11am or the volunteers pack up for the day.
