Chembur's Hidden Flavors?

My cousin, who lives there, keeps mentioning these amazing street food stalls tucked away in smaller lanes, the kind you wouldn't find on any tourist map. Anyone know of any lesser-known gems, or should I just wander and hope for the best? I'm particularly keen on trying some really authentic Maharashtrian snacks. I heard about a place selling Misal Pav that's legendary, but finding it might be a quest...

skip the aaswad hype tbh, it's fine but the queue's not worth it. go earlier in the day to the lanes behind chembur naka station, there's a lady selling thalipeeth from a cycle cart around 9am. she's there most mornings, just look for the little crowd near the paan shop. for misal, ask for shivneri in the gaothan area, it's a tiny spot with no sign but locals know it. the pav there is soft and they don't skimp on the farsan. wandering is fine but those two are solid bets

Yeah the gaothan area is where the real stuff is. If you're near the old Sion Panvel highway side, there's a guy who does ukdiche modak on weekends near the Hanuman temple, only between 4-6pm. It's just a small folding table setup but his coconut filling is incredible.

the person mentioning shivneri is right, that's the real deal for misal. if you want something sweet after, walk towards the diamond garden side and look for a chai tapri run by an older couple, they make this weirdly good masala chai with a hint of cardamom that i haven't found anywhere else in chembur. also, on sundays there's a small bhel wala near the radha krishna mandir who adds raw mango pieces to his mix, only does it when the fruit's in season so you might be lucky this week. wandering works but those two are specific enough to hunt down

I want to sell my old clothes

ngl the easiest way is to just hand them over to a scrapwala near your building, they'll sort through and take what they want, rest goes to recycling. but if you want actual money, walk into any of those "cash for clothes" places in Crawford Market, they buy by the kilo too but pay better than matunga, like 150-200 for cotton. just don't bring anything with stains or tears, they'll reject it outright and you'll waste your time hauling it there

fwiw you could also try the Instagram thrift stores that are based out of mumbai, like "bombay thrift store" or "mumbai thrift club". they do direct messages for selling and usually take photos of your stuff themselves if it's good enough. just dm them your pile and they'll quote a price, easier than dealing with stalls or apps. also, if you have any branded stuff, try the "luxury thrift" pages instead, they pay way better for zara or h&m than the general ones

The St. Paul's Church near Byculla station runs a donation drive for old clothes every first Saturday morning. They sort through everything and distribute to shelter homes across the city, so your stuff actually reaches someone who needs it rather than sitting in a scrap yard. Just drop off before 11am or the volunteers pack up for the day.
