The staff were super friendly, always smiling, but there was this weird, persistent humming sound I couldn't place. It wasn't loud, more like a low drone, but it was constant. Anyone else experienced this? I'm curious if it's some kind of local thing, an old pipe, or something else entirely. It was driving me nuts!

That humming is the building's old water pressure system. Prakash Inn was converted from a residential building from the 60s, and they kept the original overhead tank booster pump setup. It kicks in automatically whenever the municipal supply pressure drops, which in that part of Grant Road happens constantly. If you go back, ask for room 103 or 104 on the ground floor. Those rooms are farther from the pump room and the hum is barely audible.

Weird. Never stayed at Prakash Inn, but Mumbai's full of old buildings with...interesting soundscapes. Could be anything from ancient plumbing to electrical hums. Maybe even a transformer somewhere nearby? I'd guess plumbing, given the age of a lot of the structures in that area. If it was driving you nuts, I bet it's noticeable to others too; maybe try asking some locals if they've noticed it.

ngl i think it might be the trains. there's a railway yard like a block away and those engines idle all night with this deep rumble that just kinda seeps into everything. if you were on the upper floors it prob sounded more like a hum

I want to sell my old clothes

ngl the easiest way is to just hand them over to a scrapwala near your building, they'll sort through and take what they want, rest goes to recycling. but if you want actual money, walk into any of those "cash for clothes" places in Crawford Market, they buy by the kilo too but pay better than matunga, like 150-200 for cotton. just don't bring anything with stains or tears, they'll reject it outright and you'll waste your time hauling it there

fwiw you could also try the Instagram thrift stores that are based out of mumbai, like "bombay thrift store" or "mumbai thrift club". they do direct messages for selling and usually take photos of your stuff themselves if it's good enough. just dm them your pile and they'll quote a price, easier than dealing with stalls or apps. also, if you have any branded stuff, try the "luxury thrift" pages instead, they pay way better for zara or h&m than the general ones

The St. Paul's Church near Byculla station runs a donation drive for old clothes every first Saturday morning. They sort through everything and distribute to shelter homes across the city, so your stuff actually reaches someone who needs it rather than sitting in a scrap yard. Just drop off before 11am or the volunteers pack up for the day.
