Long stay permit in Chennai 2026, which one do I need?

Does the e-visa work for a few months or do I have to apply for something else before I land? Also curious what usually goes wrong with the paperwork so I can avoid it.

e-visa won't cover a long stint

arrow_drop_up 13 arrow_drop_down

Right, and the 180 day gap rule trips people up.

arrow_drop_up 20 arrow_drop_down

the 2-month gap between re-entry counts from exit stamp

arrow_drop_up 4 arrow_drop_down

Correct, and the 180 day gap is what catches people.

arrow_drop_up -1 arrow_drop_down

Agreed, and the usual trap is the entry-type mismatch: tourist e-visa can't be converted in-country, so you'd exit and reapply as employment or business.

arrow_drop_up 5 arrow_drop_down

true for tourist ones, entry visa is the long-stay route

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

Yep, tourist e-visa maxes at 90 days, so for a few months you'd want an entry visa applied for before landing.

Dindigul Thalappakatti, on Poonamallee High Road.

arrow_drop_up 5 arrow_drop_down

fair pick but the branch right by the station is teh one on Wall Tax Road, not the highway one, so its a shorter walk with bags. get the mutton biriyani and a plate of idiyappam on the side.

arrow_drop_up 1 arrow_drop_down

Central Biriyani is a bit hit or miss, but the chicken 65 there is solid if you do stop.

arrow_drop_up 1 arrow_drop_down

There's also a Thalappakatti inside the station complex itself if you don't want to lug bags anywhere.

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

last i checked that outlet was pretty tiny & mostly grabs-and-go, so don't count on sitting with ur bags

arrow_drop_up 4 arrow_drop_down

the one on EVR Salai does a decent seeraga samba version too

Only if you're hitting it before noon, closes early afternoon.

arrow_drop_up -10 arrow_drop_down

I've only passed through so don't quote me, but a good filter coffee after beats any biriyani debate.

arrow_drop_up -1 arrow_drop_down

Skip the highway one with luggage, the small spot opposite the station's west exit does a decent mutton plate without the queue.

arrow_drop_up 4 arrow_drop_down

Ask for seeraga samba rice, not basmati.
