heading to chennai next month & thouseef keeps popping up. is it a decent bar for a visitor or kinda overrated in 2026 heading to chennai next month & thouseef keeps popping up. is it a decent bar for a visitor or kinda overrated in 2026

Skip it, better bars on KNK Road.

fair but Nungambakkam high road has a couple spots worth the detour if ur already up there

arrow_drop_up 13 arrow_drop_down

Khader Nawaz Khan Road gets the crowds but the side lanes off it are where I'd actually drink. That stretch near the old Satyam cinemas has a few low-key places that don't bother with a scene.

arrow_drop_up 3 arrow_drop_down

I'd say it's worth it, I've been there a few times and the drinks are solid without being too pricey.

arrow_drop_up 1 arrow_drop_down

theres a good one on chamiers road instead

arrow_drop_up 1 arrow_drop_down

agreed, though the ones off the main stretch are quieter

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

True, the quieter ones are usually a side street or two in. I'd just walk around and see what looks busy without being packed, that's usually the better bet over chasing a name.

arrow_drop_up 1 arrow_drop_down

thouseef is more of a resto bar anyway

arrow_drop_up 3 arrow_drop_down

sounds about right, though id just ask whoever ur staying with for a spot near where ur actually based

Chennai long stay permit 2026: what paperwork do I need?

Which visa or residence permit covers a stay that long, and what documents do people usually get tripped up on at the FRRO? I'd rather know what goes wrong before I land.
arrow_drop_up 4 arrow_drop_down

Employment visa is the one, and register online on the e-FRRO portal before queuing, since walk-ins without a slot get turned away.

arrow_drop_up 4 arrow_drop_down

Agreed on the e-FRRO slot, though note the employment visa itself needs to be converted to a residence permit within 14 days of arrival, not just registered. Also book the slot for early morning; the queue at that office builds fast by 10am.

arrow_drop_up 24 arrow_drop_down

Book the slot like a week ahead too, they release in batches and midweek mornings go first.

arrow_drop_up 4 arrow_drop_down

the big gotcha at the Chennai FRRO (they call it FRO here, office is on Haddows Road) is the landlord paperwork. your rental agreement needs to be notarised and the owner's property tax receipt or a copy of their passport if they're NRI, plus they have to sign the C-form. people show up with just a lease and get sent back. also carry 4 passport photos and copies of every single page of your passport, not just the visa page.
