Staying near Modern Central Lodge, how to meet people in Chennai?
Chennai Trekking Club does weekend hikes from Koyambedu, and the Chennai Photo Biennale runs open darkroom sessions.
Board games at Elliot's Beach on Sunday mornings.
second this, bring ur own snacks tho
Water bottles too, the marina stretch past the lighthouse has zero shade by 9am.
Near the Karl Schmidt Memorial end, from 8am.
do u know if that group is still going, i heard they moved to a park in adyar at some point last year
the trekking club hikes usually fill up fast so rsvp early on their site. for the photo stuff check if the darkroom sessions are still running, i think they slowed down between biennales. what kind of crowd are u after, outdoorsy or creative?
CTC also does midweek cycling runs from Madhavaram, worth checking their calendar since the hike slots vanish fast.
darkroom sessions moved to Injambakkam, weekends only
Language exchange meetups at cafes in Besant Nagar tend to run weekly, that's probably your best bet for regular faces. Otherwise just ask around your lodge, honestly.
Ambur Star Briyani 1890 Chennai price check 2026
ambur star is a chain so rates are pretty fixed, not really a tourist trap thing. mutton briyani there usually runs 280 to 350 depending on the outlet & portion, biryani is pricey in chennai generally. if they quoted way above that then ask for the menu card
menu card is the tell, ask before ordering
ask for the bill too not just the card, some spots quote one rate and tally another at the counter
Checking the card matters most at the counter itself, since the printed rate and what they key into the till can quietly differ by 30 or 40 rupees.
good point, the till is where it gets sneaky
yep & check the laminated one, not the wall board
yeah and the outlet matters too, the one near Spencer Plaza ran me about 320 for mutton last I checked
Portion size probably explains the gap too, a full plate versus a single can swing it by 50 or so.
T Nagar outlet, similar range last month.
Fair point on the chain pricing, though franchise outlets do drift a bit. The one on GN Chetty Road tends to sit at the higher end because of the rent, so the location genuinely matters here.
