Chennai long stay permit 2026 for foreigners?
Carry photocopies of your visa, passport bio page, and a landlord's no objection letter, since the e-FRRO portal upload often rejects blurry scans.
Agreed on the blurry scans, and get the landlord letter notarized plus a recent passport photo, since the upload rejects those too.
landlord letter should name the exact dates of your stay and match the address on the rental agreement, mismatches get flagged. also scan at 300 dpi or the portal compresses it to mush
good call, also keep the scans under 200kb or the upload stalls
You'll want the FRRO registration for stays past 180 days, and Madras Coffee House on NSC Bose Road works fine for waiting.
Registration's actually the e-FRRO portal now, appointment slot at the Chennai FRRO office on Shastri Bhavan Road, and slots fill up days ahead so book early.
The portal times out a lot, so save as you go.
Madras Coffee House is fine but the filter coffee there is stronger than most places, so don't order a second one before your appointment. For the permit itself, if your stay is under 180 days you may only need a visa extension, not full registration, so check your exact dates first.
Second this, and the 180-day count runs from your date of entry.
fair point on the dates, though the 180-day thing only applies to certain visa types so double check urs b4 assuming
Ambur Star Briyani 1890 Chennai, visa paperwork?
for the visa thing the frro usually wants ur rental agreement & landlord's id along with the form, that's what trips ppl up. on the briyani, the 1890 branch is decent but tbh i'd hit the ambur original if u ever pass through. worth it once
yeah the landlord id thing got me too, they also wanted my lease notarized which nobody warns u about
second this, landlord pan card also helps
Landlord PAN copy, they asked for it too.
also bring a utility bill in the landlord's name, tripped me up
Mine wanted the PAN and a self attested copy of their passport photo page stapled together.
the frro queue at shastri bhavan is brutal before 10am so go early & bring photocopies of everything, they always want one more. briyani 1890 near the airport side is fine but the mutton there runs dry by 2pm
Shastri Bhavan counters shut for lunch around 1.30, so morning only.
Counters close at 5.30 sharp, no exceptions.
5.30 is the last token, not the last counter, so if u walk in at 5.15 ur getting turned around
