Madras Coffee House near Central station safe at night?

Is that stretch around the station okay to walk at that hour in 2026, or should I just book a cab? Also which parts of the city should I avoid late at night in general?

Book the cab, station stretch is sketchy after 10.

Second this, Poonamallee High Road feels empty by then.

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

the stretch past central towards park station too

arrow_drop_up 3 arrow_drop_down

Fair, though I'd say the real risk is the walk down to Egmore more than the coffee stop itself. The stretch past the Government Hospital gates gets very dark and quiet once the buses stop, and there's not much foot traffic to rely on.

arrow_drop_up 4 arrow_drop_down

Whites Road side is lit, Egmore side isn't

arrow_drop_up 5 arrow_drop_down

yeah id agree, that whole area past the station gets pretty dead late. honestly theres not much open around there at 11 so the streets feel empty. just take the cab, not worth the walk.

arrow_drop_up 1 arrow_drop_down

Agreed, and the auto drivers clustered outside the north entrance get aggressive with luggage after 10, so pre book or use the prepaid counter inside.

arrow_drop_up 1 arrow_drop_down

cabs at central queue past midnight too

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

Prepaid counter shuts around 11.30 though.

arrow_drop_up 4 arrow_drop_down

Grab coffee inside the station, not the street.

Rajat jana bar, good for a first visit in 2026?

fmd_goodRajat jana · #drink #chennai
visiting chennai next month & staying near rajat jana. is the bar there worth checking out for a drink or should i look elsewhere? idk the area at all tbh visiting chennai next month & staying near rajat jana. is the bar there worth checking out for a drink or should i look elsewhere? idk the area at all tbh

stayed near there last year. the bar's fine but nothing special, mostly a work crowd in the evenings. if you want something with more character walk 10 min to the smaller places off the main road, cheaper too.

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

yeah the side lanes off the main road are where it's at, check after 8

arrow_drop_up 1 arrow_drop_down

After 8 works but a couple shut by 10.

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

which lane exactly, ive been told the same

arrow_drop_up -1 arrow_drop_down

fair point on the work crowd, but the side lanes get dead after 10 so go early unless u want a quiet one

arrow_drop_up 4 arrow_drop_down

the 10pm point holds for weeknights but friday the lanes run later, till 11 or so. if ur going on a weekday then yeah, early is right

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

Saturday's the exception, lanes fill past midnight.

arrow_drop_up 4 arrow_drop_down

Midnight is pushing it imo, most shut by 11:30 even on Saturdays, but the crowd spills onto the street so it feels later.

arrow_drop_up 5 arrow_drop_down

Good call on the side lanes, though I'd say go before 9 since a couple of those spots roll down early on weeknights.

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

those smaller spots are mostly wine shops with a bench out front, so set ur expectations accordingly
