Best doctor in Chennai for expats 2026
Apollo on Greams Road, Dr. ...
Dr. ... at that hospital, is that the dermatology dept or a specific clinic? I've seen a couple of names floating around and want to make sure I'm booking the right one before I fly out.
Probably the dept, not a separate clinic, just call ahead.
Does that dermatology dept see walk-ins or do you need to book weeks ahead?
Try a clinic in Egmore or Kilpauk nearby, consults run 500 to 1000 rupees cash, and most want upfront payment rather than foreign insurance.
Second this, though cash upfront is standard everywhere.
Cash-only is right, but carry smaller notes for the 500 consult.
Good point, and many small clinics still don't take UPI from foreign cards, so keep a few hundred in coins for the auto back too.
or just use a card at the atm first, coins run out fast
fwiw the central station area isnt great for specialists, most decent derms sit further south in Adyar or Alwarpet. if u can stretch the commute, look at Skin & Hair clinic on TTK Road, consults are around 800 to 1200. insurance from abroad is usually a reimbursement thing, u pay cash upfront and claim later, so keep every receipt.
Modern Central Lodge Chennai 2026: safe area for a solo traveler?
Ask the desk to show u the room first and skip anything facing the road, its loud till late.
Back rooms face the temple, quieter after 10.
Temple side makes sense, though those rooms catch the 5am kolam and bell noise, so bring earplugs.
Earplugs plus a sleep mask, the kolam starts before sunrise.
stayed nearby on a work trip, not at the lodge itself. that stretch around NSC Bose Road gets busy early evening then goes quiet, so stick to the main road after 9ish rather than the lanes behind. nearest metro is Government Estate on the blue line, maybe 15 min walk. buses on NSC Bose are frequent. ngl the cheap rooms there are pretty basic, check the room before paying
yeah the lanes off EVK Sampath Salai are the sketchy bit after dark, and Central station is walkable too if u don't mind 20 mins.
Agree on those lanes, though the stretch past the Connemara has decent lighting now. From there you can also cut through to Moore Market for Park station on the green line, saves the walk.
fair point on the lanes. fwiw Broadway bus stand is closer than the metro for most northbound routes and it's lit pretty well at night. just watch your bag in the evening crush there.
Ritchie Street side is worse, shutters down by 8
the hardware shops pull their shutters down early yes but that's commercial not danger, the pavements just empty out. it's lit fine now. i'd still avoid the underpass near the suburban station after dark
