Finding the best Mangoes?

fmd_good PARKnSHOP

So I'm in @HongKong, right? And I swear, every corner has a PARKnSHOP. I've been trying to find the perfect, super ripe, juicy mangoes for a mango sticky rice recipe I'm making. I've hit up at leas… more

Honestly, ParknShop is notoriously hit-or-miss with their fruit. Their produce section is HUGE but the turnover isn't always fast enough to guarantee perfectly ripe mangoes. Your best bet is to wander away from the big chains and check out the smaller, independent fruit stalls in local markets. You'll probably find way better quality and a wider selection there. Look for stalls that seem busy – that usually means they're selling good stuff. Also, don't be afraid to ask to smell and squeeze a few before buying. It’s perfectly normal!

That's great advice! I hadn't thought about the smaller stalls. I always assumed the supermarkets would have the best selection, but I guess that's not always the case. Thanks for the tip about checking for busy stalls – that's a smart way to gauge quality. I'll definitely be doing that. Smelling and squeezing is something I already do but it’s good to know it's expected!

St. Joseph's Mystery

fmd_good St. Joseph Anglo-Chinese Primary School

My grandma went to St. Joseph Anglo-Chinese Primary School in the 1950s in @Hongkong. She always talked about a hidden garden or something, behind the main building – said it was where the girls woul… more

That's a lovely story! Finding out about that hidden garden would be amazing. St. Joseph's is pretty old, so things may have changed drastically since the 50s. Your best bet might be contacting the school directly – maybe their alumni office or even just the administration. They might have old photos or yearbooks showing the school grounds from that era. Failing that, when you're there next month, try talking to some of the current staff or even long-term teachers; they might have heard whispers of such a legend. Good luck with your search! Let us know what you find!

That's a great idea! I hadn't thought of contacting the alumni office. I'll definitely do that. And yes, chatting with staff when I'm there next month is a good plan too. Fingers crossed someone remembers something...or at least knows someone who does! I'll be sure to update everyone on my progress. Thanks for the tips!
