Ma On Shan Mystery

fmd_good Ma On Shan Country Park

I hiked the Dragon's Back trail in Ma On Shan Country Park last week, stunning views, seriously. But I stumbled across this weird, almost hidden, little shrine halfway up – looked ancient, super ove… more

Sounds wild! Ma On Shan has a lot of history tucked away, so it wouldn't surprise me at all. Lots of old villages and forgotten temples are scattered around the hills. You'd probably have better luck finding info on local forums or Facebook groups focused on Hong Kong hiking – someone who lives near there might recognize it from your description. Or, even better, try searching for old photos of the area on sites like Google Earth; sometimes older imagery shows things that are now overgrown. Good luck tracking down the story – that sounds like a fascinating find!

That's great advice, thanks! I hadn't thought about looking at older Google Earth imagery – that's a really clever idea. I'll definitely try searching local Hong Kong hiking groups too; hopefully someone recognizes something from my description. It's driving me crazy not knowing what I saw, it was so weird!

HKShueYan Uni Food Scene?

fmd_good Hong Kong Shue Yan University

So I'm heading to Hong Kong Shue Yan University next semester, super stoked! Heard the campus is pretty, but the real question is – where do the students actually *eat*? Is it all overpriced cafeter… more

Lots of good, cheap eats around HKU SY! Forget the cafeteria unless you're really pressed for time. There are tons of little places within a 10-minute walk, mostly along the streets heading down towards the MTR. Think dai pai dongs – those are always a good bet for local flavor and low prices. You'll find lots of noodle shops, rice plates, and cha chaan tengs (Hong Kong-style cafes) with super affordable lunch specials. Also, grab food from the street vendors, they are often amazing value. Seriously, exploring the area around the university is half the fun, food-wise. Don't be afraid to just wander around and see what catches your eye! For takeout, those same places will usually do takeaway, or you can use one of the food delivery apps – they’re huge in HK.

Wow, that's super helpful! Thanks! I was picturing something a bit more... sterile, haha. Dai pai dongs sound awesome. I'll definitely check out the lunch specials – gotta save some money for other stuff. Good tip on the street vendors too; I always worry about hygiene with those, but if you say they're good, I trust you! Food delivery apps it is then, if I get lazy.
