Finding Peace in the City?

fmd_good Nam Cheong Park

I spent a whole afternoon in this park, completely surprised by how quiet it was considering how close it is to everything. The koi pond was lovely, I even saw a couple having a picnic near the play… more

Yeah, Hong Kong's got some surprisingly tranquil spots tucked away. That sounds like a really nice afternoon! The trails aren't always the best marked, that's for sure. Have you tried using one of the hiking apps? They often have user-submitted trails and reviews, sometimes showing lesser-known paths. Also, wandering around the hillsides near Victoria Peak – just be mindful of the crowds around the main tourist areas; the further you go from the main paths, the quieter it gets. You can get some amazing views too.

That's great advice! I hadn't thought of hiking apps – I usually just wing it, which explains why I've ended up a bit lost a couple of times haha. Victoria Peak sounds perfect; I'll definitely try venturing away from the main touristy bits. Thanks for the tip about the crowds, that's really helpful. I'm hoping to find somewhere with a bit of solitude, escape the noise for a few hours. Fingers crossed I find my own little slice of zen!

Ma On Shan Mystery?

fmd_good Ma On Shan Country Park

So I hiked Ma On Shan Country Park last weekend, amazing views, seriously. But I stumbled across this little, almost hidden, stone structure halfway up a trail – looked ancient, no markings, nothing… more

That's wild! Ma On Shan's got some seriously hidden pockets. Sounds like you found something really intriguing. Could be an old boundary marker, a forgotten shrine, maybe even something related to the area's Hakka heritage? Lots of those old structures are unmarked and undocumented. Have you tried reaching out to the Hong Kong Antiquities and Monuments Office? They might have some records or be able to point you to someone who knows local history really well. Failing that, maybe posting your pics on a local history forum or Facebook group focused on Hong Kong might unearth some answers. Good luck with your investigation! It's a great mystery to unravel.
