Finding a good dim sum place

fmd_good Union Square

I'm spending a week here for business. The hotel concierge recommended a few places, but they all seemed…touristy. I want an authentic experience, the kind locals enjoy. Any hidden gems (I know, I k… more

Honestly, forget the concierge recommendations. Head to Mong Kok. It's a total whirlwind, but that's where you'll find the real Hong Kong dim sum scene. Look for smaller, less flashy places – the ones packed with locals. Don't worry about the menu being all in Chinese; just point and nod, you'll be fine. Trust me, the best dim sum is often found in these bustling, slightly chaotic places. You'll probably get a better meal and pay less than at those fancy tourist traps. The food stalls around the wet markets are also worth checking out – you'll see amazing stuff you'd never find anywhere else. Prepare for a sensory overload, but it's part of the experience.

That's great advice! I've heard Mong Kok is crazy busy but sounds like exactly the kind of place to find authentic dim sum. Pointing and nodding is totally my style... I'm not afraid of a little chaos, especially if it means incredible food and a lower price tag. Thanks for the wet market tip too – hadn't even thought of that! I'm definitely adding that to my itinerary. I'm already picturing myself elbow-deep in amazing dumplings.

The curry! Seriously, the curry at PolyU is unmatched. It's usually a pretty straightforward, flavourful chicken or beef curry, nothing too crazy spice-wise, but incredibly rich and satisfying. Perfect for a hefty appetite. You won't be disappointed. Get extra rice. You'll need it.
