Any expat families here living in Friedrichshagen?

Curious to hear about your experience. How do you like it? How are the schools? What do you like, what you don't like? How easy/difficult was it for you to integrate? yeah we moved here from neukölln two years ago, big change but honestly the quiet is worth it. the schools are decent, our kid goes to the grundschule on peter-hille-straße, teachers are engaged, lots of outdoor time which i love. integration was easier than i thought because the kiez is small, you see the same parents at the bäcker and the spielplatz, people actually say hi. downside is the s3 can be a pain if you work late, last train feels early sometimes, and the weekends get packed with day-trippers at the müggelsee. but for family life, having the water and the forest right there is unbeatable, we barely go into the city center anymore

moved here from charlottenburg three years ago, mostly for space and the water. the rental market is way more forgiving than the west, we got a garden flat for what a 2-room wouldve cost us there. schools are fine, nothing fancy, but the kids run around outside after class instead of staring at screens. biggest thing nobody tells you: the s3 splits your life in two, everything north of the tracks feels like a different village, and you'll pick one side for your errands. the rathaus area has the good bakery, but the real gem is the little italian place near the bahnhof, la trattoria, cash only and packed on fridays. integration was honestly easier because i joined the local fussball club, not the expat bubble, and that opened every door. winter is dead quiet, but the christmas market at the kirche is small and actually charming, not the tourist circus you get in the center.

we're in the same boat, moved here from prenzlauer berg about a year ago. honestly the schools are fine but the real win is the community vibe, there's a bunch of expat families around the altstadt and we kinda found each other through the kita. integration's been slow for me tbh, my german is still rough but the neighbors are patient and the market on saturdays is where you actually meet people. downside? the s3 is the only line and if you miss it, you're stuck, plus the winters can feel dead quiet. but the lake in

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
