Where is the best place in Berlin to donate handmade items? (Knit/crocheted blankets, hats, scarves, etc.)?

I make a lot of nice items using quality wool. It's not worth the hassle to sell them, I'd like to give them away. Where in Berlin can I do this? I make a lot of nice items using quality wool. It's not worth the hassle to sell them, I'd like to give them away. Where in Berlin can I do this?

if you're near wedding, the frauenzentrum on gerichtstraße runs a small free shop and they always need warm knits. they're a bit picky about natural fibers though so your quality wool should be perfect. also check out the refugee welcome stores in xhain or moabit, they distribute directly to families arriving cold and often have specific requests for baby hats and blankets

another option is the wärmestube at st. hedwigs krankenhaus near u-bhf rosa-luxemburg-platz. they take warm items directly for their guests, no appointment needed just walk in during their opening hours. for baby stuff the kinderklinik at virchow campus also takes handknit blankets but they're picky about materials so call the sozialdienst first. the obdachlosenhilfe at bahnhof zoo has a collection point in the back building where you can leave scarves and hats any day before 6pm

The Obdachlosenhilfe at Bahnhof Zoo usually takes handmade winter items directly, just walk up to the outreach workers near the station entrance. If you want something more structured, Berliner Stadtmission has donation points across the city and they specifically ask for wool blankets and hats during colder months. I'd skip the big container bins though, your nice wool pieces might end up sorted for rags rather than given to someone who needs them.

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
