honestly just go with IG Metall, they're the ones actually fighting for remote work clauses in contracts now which is pretty relevant for us. verdi is more for people in public administration or state-owned stuff, not really tech.

one thing nobody's mentioned is the waiting period for legal protection. if you join today and get fired tomorrow, they won't cover you for court stuff for the first 3 months. it's called the "Wartezeit" and it's in the fine print. so if you're in a shaky job, better join sooner rather than later.

also your fee changes if you go freelance or switch to a startup without a tariff contract. i've seen people get surprised when their Beitrag drops because they're suddenly earning less, but then they lose access to some benefits too. it's all proportional.
