New Year's (lake) dive?
Teufelssee is the main one people know about, but there's also a smaller group that meets at Schlachtensee around 11. You'll find them near the Strandbad entrance on the south side. It's a bit more chill and less crowded than the Teufelssee crowd. The water will be around 4 or 5 degrees so don't plan on staying in long.
i've seen people do it at weisser see in prenzlberg too, a bit more lowkey than teufelssee. there's usually a small group around 11 by the main pier, they bring a thermos of glühwein after. the water's freezing but the sauna at weisser see is open later if you want to warm up properly
yeah there's a group that does this at teufelssee every year, meet around 10am at the u-bahn exit and walk over together. they call it the "neujahrsschwimmen" but it's more of a quick plunge than an actual swim. bring a towel and something warm to stand on after, the ground gets real cold on your feet. if teufelssee is too far, check the ddr museum facebook group they sometimes coordinate something at mitte's stadtbad too

solid breakdown, i'd add that the Schöneberg mention is spot-on but the guide leaves out how good the U1 line is for getting around. from Nollendorfplatz you're at Warschauer Strasse in like 10 minutes and Kottbusser Tor in maybe 6, so you can hit both Kreuzberg and Friedrichshain without a transfer. my partner and i stayed near Akazienstrasse last year and paid 95 a night for a quiet room with a balcony, way better value than anything in Mitte. the Akazienstrasse itself has a couple of great italian delis and a small cinema that shows english-language films, worth a lazy afternoon
