Developed a perianal abscess which is extremely painful. How to get help?

I haven't reached out to any doctors in Berlin before, checked on doctolib and can't find any appointments in the next week. I just fear the abscess doesn't turn into sepsis or anything. What should I do in this case?

Skip Doctolib entirely for this one. Call 116117, that's the ärztlicher Bereitschaftsdienst, they'll route you to a doctor on duty today, often within a couple of hours. Perianal abscesses are treated as urgent, not elective, so a Hausarzt or a Chirurg with same-day slots will see you, especially if you mention the pain level and fear of sepsis.

If it's after hours or you feel feverish, go straight to the Notaufnahme at a hospital like Charité Mitte or Vivantes. They'll drain it on the spot, that's the real fix, and you'll leave with antibiotics. Don't wait for a regular appointment, this won't resolve on its own and the longer you wait, the more tissue damage and the worse the surgery gets.

Also, don't be shy about calling practices directly instead of booking online. Many Berlin practices keep a few slots open for emergencies, the receptionist just needs to hear "Abszess" and "starke Schmerzen" and they'll squeeze you in.

Yeah, definitely treat this as urgent. The other tip I'd add is that you can also just walk into the Notaufnahme at a smaller hospital or a Chirurgie practice that does walk-in hours, a lot of them post their offene Sprechstunde times online. I had a friend go through this last year and he just showed up at a Praxis near Rosenthaler Platz, told them what was going on, and they had him in within the hour. Just bring your passport or Anmeldung if you have it, they'll sort the billing out later.

honestly if u can't get anyone on the phone either just go to the notaufnahme at urban or st. joseph, they're less swamped than charité sometimes. bring ur health card but even without it they'll treat u, the paperwork comes later. also ask them for a referral to a proktologie specialist before u leave, the drainage is only step one, u'll need follow up care cause these things recur like crazy
