So, I'm heading to @Berlin next month and I'm really excited to check out the Historischer Hafen. I've read tons about its history, but all the photos seem to show the same few boats and buildings.… more
It's definitely touristy, especially in peak season, but there's more to it than just the photo ops. The vibe is... well, it's a bit of a mixed bag. You'll get the postcard views, for sure. But if you wander a bit away from the main paths, towards the less-manicured parts, you'll find smaller, quieter spots. You can absolutely grab a beer and watch the river traffic – lots of barges and smaller boats go by. It won’t be totally devoid of tourists, but you can definitely find pockets of relative peace. Think less "perfectly-preserved museum" and more "charming, slightly gritty working harbor with a beautiful backdrop". Don't expect total solitude, but a quiet beer by the water is doable.
