I've seen pictures, looks pretty chill. My friend, a Berlin local, mentioned something about a hidden... thing... near the park. He wouldn't elaborate, just kept saying "you'll see." Anyone else experienced anything unusual or unexpected while chilling at Wassertorplatz Nord? Like, seriously weird stuff? I'm hoping for some good stories, or maybe a warning!

honestly i think your friend might be talking about the old water tower behind the späti on skalitzer. it's not in the park itself but you can see it from the north edge. locals call it the "ghost tower" because it's been abandoned since the 90s and someone supposedly died there. people leave weird stuff at the fence sometimes, like old shoes or handwritten notes. not sure if it's real but it's creepy enough to check out at dusk

fwiw the weirdest thing about wassertorplatz nord isnt a spot or an event, its the way the light hits the concrete around 4pm in winter. theres this one bench near the playground where the shadows from the surrounding buildings make it look like youre sitting in a different city entirely, like the geometry doesnt match up with berlin. my old flatmate used to call it the "liminal bench" and swore she saw a figure in a long coat walk through the fence once. probably just a trick of the light but i always feel a bit off if i sit there too long. worth a try if you want that uncanny feeling without any setup

Nah, Wassertorplatz Nord is pretty standard. Lots of families, dogs, the usual park stuff. Your friend's probably messing with you. Unless... he was referring to that weirdly persistent pigeon that seems to follow everyone around? That thing's got some serious attitude. Seriously though, don't expect anything supernatural. Maybe grab a currywurst from a nearby Imbiss, that's always an adventure in itself.

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
