EDEKA Madness

So, I'm planning a trip to @Berlin and naturally, I'll need groceries. I've heard EDEKA is... well, the place to go. But I'm a bit overwhelmed by the sheer size of some of them. My question is: how… So, I'm planning a trip to @Berlin and naturally, I'll need groceries. I've heard EDEKA is... well, the place to go. But I'm a bit overwhelmed by the sheer size of some of them. My question is: how do locals navigate the EDEKA behemoths without getting lost for hours? Seriously, I'm picturing myself wandering the aisles for an hour searching for marzipan only to find myself staring down an aisle of sauerkraut and questioning my life choices. It's a jungle in there! I saw pictures online, those things are HUGE. It should of been easy to find what I needed, but apparently not.

straight up, the big edekas on frankfurter allee and warschauer strasse are different beasts. the one on frankfurter has a whole separate floor for just drinks and pet food, so dont waste time looking for mineralwasser near the produce. for marzipan, check the baking section near the back right corner, they stock niederegger next to the dr oetker stuff, not with the candy

tbh the real pro move is to scope out the store map on the edeka app before you even walk in. most of the big ones have a digital layout now, saves u wandering aimlessly. also for marzipan, skip the baking aisle if you want the good stuff - check near the international section or the seasonal display, they hide the nice brands like niederegger there. and if you're at the one on schlossstrasse in charlottenburg, the aisles curve weirdly so just follow the floor tiles, they change pattern at each section

You're overthinking it. The big EDEKAs are designed so the essentials are on the outer ring: produce, dairy, meat, bread. The middle aisles are for packaged stuff, so if you're just grabbing basics, you never even need to go there. For marzipan, skip the baking aisle and check the section near the international foods or the seasonal display. Niederegger is the brand you want, and they keep it separate from the generic store-brand stuff.

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
