It's always packed, buzzing with people. I noticed this one particular cashier, always super friendly, always seemed to know everyone's name. Crazy, right? Anyway, I'm convinced she's some kind of undercover agent, maybe gathering intel on the best currywurst places or something. Anyone else ever noticed anything weird about the staff at the CAP-Markt near the station? It's gotta be more than just friendly customer service, I think...

honestly i think the real mystery is why that CAP-Markt always smells faintly of sauerkraut and bleach at the same time, it's such a specific combination. the cashier probably knows because she's been running that place like a well-oiled machine since before the u-bahn renovation a few years back. i once saw her help a confused tourist find the right bus while simultaneously ringing up three customers and explaining the Pfand system to someone new, that's not normal human behavior. maybe she's just a really dedicated employee but honestly if she is a spy she's doing a better job blending in than half the actual spies in this city

lol the cashier is def the main character of that CAP-Markt. i swear she remembers my preferred oat milk brand even when i switch it up every other week. but honestly the real weirdo is the older guy who stands by the organic section whispering to the jars, seen him at least twice. maybe it's a berlin thing, everyone's got a bit of performance art going on.

That's the CAP-Markt on Prinzenstraße, right? The cashier you're talking about has been there for years, I think she even worked at the old location before they moved into the new building. The disappearing shelf-stocker is probably just grabbing stock from the back, that store has a tiny storage room and they're always running out of things like spelt flour. Honestly, the real mystery is how they keep the fresh bread section stocked past 5pm, that's the true undercover operation.

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
