Volkspark Friedrichshain's Secret?

Sunbathing, people-watching, the usual park stuff. But I swear I saw something weird near the pond, some kind of... statue? Or maybe just a really realistic garden gnome? It was kinda creepy though, tucked away in the bushes. I couldn't get a good look before some kids ran past, screaming about a squirrel. Anyone else ever seen anything... unusual... in that part of the park?

the one near the pond is the least hidden of the bunch honestly. there's another one tucked into the wall by the frankfurter tor side that's basically invisible unless you're looking for it, looks like a tiny stone monk with a bird on its head. pretty sure the artist still lives in the neighborhood, saw someone tagging a new one near boxhagener platz last year

yeah that's the 'geisterzwerg' i've heard people call it. apparently it's not even officially part of the park, just some local artist's guerilla project that got left behind. there's a second one near the rehberge entrance that's way more hidden, half buried in ivy. if u want a proper look go on a weekday morning when the kids aren't around, the light hits it better

fwiw i think you found the one people call the "stone kid" but it's way creepier than that name suggests. my buddy who's a local historian says it was part of a larger installation about the bombing in ww2, there's a plaque nearby that's totally overgrown now. if you go to the east side near the frankfurter tor exit there's a matching one that's supposed to be an adult figure, it's almost completely covered in moss and graffiti now

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
